Anything in those screens look familier? They're from the new ww2 mod "The Gate" and unless there was some agreement between the dod team and the guys behind this that i don't know about, this really pisses me off. I mean come on, i thought there was a level of mutual repsect not to steal one anothers work among the mod teams...especially mods of the same source. Guess i was wrong.

i know it's POSSIBLE to take anything from any hl mod, but that just seems like a really cheap way of making a mod. It still irritates me that they don't take the time and effort to develope all of their own stuff. They had just better give credit where credit is due.

Not quite, DANZA, DoD is published through VALVe, but not made directly by them. So the EULA applies to Half-Life itself, not it's mods. But I imagine those models are just placeholders, has anyone visited the site to see if they're claiming them?

It's not always that simple, i mean you might get someone who can code and start work on a mod. But if he can't animate, make model, skins etc, then he has to find peeps to join him in making the mod. And if he can't find anyone to join him, then what else can he do but use existing models.

As long as credit is given i say good luck to them.

wow, just took a look at their site, and I don't think there's anything to be afraid of from that mod. The only quality work are the models taken from Day of Defeat, and counterstrike. Take a look as some of their other screens. I doubt this mod will be around too long.

well at least they do give credit for the tank models. looks like the only thing they made themselves were the player models and the maps. every weapon i could see appeared to be ripped from cs dod, original hl (which i guess isn't really a rip) and the hl opposing forces. i'd have to agree, i don't think this mod will last long at all.

I bet some said that about dod beta 1.0 many moons ago, but look at it now, it's in the shops, although it has not added that many more players to the community. Infact from what i can work out theres only another 60,000 players more, playing dod now, then what they was when it was a beta. And when you look at it that way, not all of those would of gone out and bought it. So when you think on the terms of dod being in the shops worldwide, then really dod upto now is a flop, where online gaming for the masses is concerned, so don't hold you breath that dod will be around for along time yet, because upto now it looks like it's made very little money for valve, they probobly have not even covered the costs yet, so maybe have not even made a penny out of dod yet.

I was always led to believe that the two peeps that started making dod in the first place had come from the cs team, and most that have joined the team over the years where already part of valve anyway.

I maybe wrong but i no i read this somewhere.

Well... LMFAO.. Just look at the nose of the german... ROFL.. I wouldn't want them to make a mp44 skins.. Let em have it..

There is maybe gonna be like 2-3 person who's gonna play it.. LOL

http://www.planethalflife.com/thegate/modelsx.html

Look about halfway down it clearly says 'Some of Day of Defeat's superb models'

So they gave credit to DoD for them.

I also find it funny that they misspelled modification on their main page and in the features, they say 'Musical score by John Williams'

So I guess people will be playing The Gate to the Indiana Jones theme, Jaws, and Star Wars (just to name a few.)

I must admit that nose does look like it's been twated with a butt end or two.....lol.

But it's not graphics that makes a great game it's game play, although graphics help to make the experience more enjoyable. So who knows this mod might have really good game play when it's first released, and if it has it's bound to get some interest, there again it maybe ****.

06-03-2003, 02:42 PM
They have way to many voice actors and not enough people actually making the game.

Kamikazi: "Yep! All dod release material can be used in other Half-Life mods. They cannot be used in other games, just Half-Life mods."

http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2857

So using DoD hands + guns in other mods is like using the default HL hands + weapons in mods.

It looks like crap really. If people want non-realistic custom stuff, to each his own. But pictures of George Bush right in the screenshots. And that is only picking on content, quality is another issue. And sure the quality can go up, but does that have the look and feel of a WW2 game to you?

Thanks ripa, i was just looking for that thread

but then again I didnt read the story, so if its part of the story, then forget what i said

Valve decided to help a year down the road because they realized it would make them more profits with which to work on their source engine. It's not from the makers of counter-strike either, because dod team could mod better than counter-strike could ever dream of. The end. Dude, what the hell is your problem? Every post by you except one or two has been either flaming or borderline flames. What do you mean the Canadians made DoD? Last I check the majority of the core team was American. Plus the Source engine was done by the time VALVe picked up DoD, you can't develop a game like HL2 in that short span of time, I imagine the game has been pretty much done for several months now. Besides, CS is still fun...with bots...and Beta 6.5...:p

From what the story says it sounds like the game is a spin off of Indianna Jones and Star Gate. From what I gather its gonna be modern day US troops fighting 1943 Axis Forces.

Not really my cup of tea, but I say good luck to them. personally i think you should stop knocking them for using dod stuff and show your support. If you dont like the using dod models, why don't you get off your ass and help make them some? All mods have gotta start somewhere, surley you aint all forgotten DoD's humble beginnings already?

And its not like they're claiming the dod models for themselves. It cleary states in the models section that they are taken from the fine mod we all love.

Good luck with it lads,

You know what you people sound like? You sound like the the people on the Counter-Strike forum when DOD b1.0 was released. Are you people afraid that some other WW2 mod might pop up and take away DODs glory? If so why? Who cares maybe it offers different gameplay than DOD. That and its always good to see more WW2 mods/games coming out.

You should all download the playable demo. It's really interesting, actually... Almost like a single player Indiana Jones.

Does the gate have single player mode? I saw some screenies of people with the hitler salute..and why would you make a WWII half-life mod if there is already DoD?:)

*EDIT* checked out the site and the story. Pretty lame but who knows? I'm not sure about this but I think the story is about modern day US rangers getting transported back in WWII? The Soldat models aren't that bad either.

I have no doubt that dod will remain popular dispite this amazing *cough* looking new mod. My only complaint was that they were taking dod material, and i didn't realize that dod stuff was up for grabs with any hl mod. And even though it is legal, i still think it's pretty cheap. I can't skin/models worth crap so pardon me if i don't jump on the bandwagon of the gate team. It looks to me as though they're doing a half assed job. How am i supposed to believe that it's a good mod if they don't even take the time to develope their own material? That's all i'm saying.

I think the dev team are teenagers. The only adults I saw on the team pics were the actors.
