I just finished my map dod_beaumont. Out is now Release Candidate and due to limited spare time this will probably be the last version for the next time. :/
Anyway in the last two weeks I assembled loads of new stuff in that map to bring in in a state being worth to release.

The basic layout is inspired by Bleibringers dod_saisie, but since he did not allow me to use the name for my portation I implemented several things which I though would fit into the map.
The map is set in the (should be) french part of Belgium in the early autumn of 1944: The Americans are battleing their way through the small village of Beaumont and trying to get some abandoned German war machinery under control. Needles to say that the German forces are doing their best to avert that.
Be prepared for intense fights around a large field with a Flak, some barns and vehicles. To improve and accelerate gameplay speed there are advancing spawn for those who occupy the center flag.

You'll find more information, screens and DL Links on my webpage: http://generals.cszb.net/index.php?xid=4

For all those who are too lazy to browse to my website, here is a direct download link for the zipped bsp: http://upload.cszb.net/dod_beaumont_rc1.zip
smaller *.rar and .bsp.bz2 files are available as well (see official website).

I definitely like the map. My only real problem with it is that the lighting and atmosphere are a little too "extreme" for my tastes if that makes sense.

Well I admit, that the lightning ist really contrast rich and some places inside could definately use a bit more light. And you are not the first one who says that. But I compiled the map at least 5 times just with different lightning settings and finally picked that one. For those who don't like the darkness: just switch off HDR - it should be lighter then - but half of the athmosphere is gone as well. ;)

Perhaps I ease off and make the next release a bit lighter. ;)

The darkness and the intense kind of yellowness are what bothered me. I couldn't imagine an actual day where it was like that outside.

I really enjoyed walking around though, nice geometry and layout. Dunno how it plays.

DaKurt, you really took the words out of my mouth! I agree, with HDR on the contrast is pretty heavy. Artistically that's fine, but from a gameplay point of view, it might turn people off. Turning off HDR does help a bit though :)

I like the layout, I can't say much about how it plays until I try it out in a server though. I saw some unique and clever touches too... like the saw and the logs; I enjoy creative touches like that.

I played this on the 28ths realism server and it was full with 28 people.......Overall the map plays well, but i have to admit that whoever gets the center flak first has an advantage due to the advancing spawns......It is very difficult to get back.. not impossible though...Some comments about the darkness, but overall the people liked the map and the way it played......could stand to be a tad lighter...good map

played this properly on our 82nd server last night.
Absolutely awesome battle was had, but our only complaint is the Darkness, which you have mentioned might be eased in a new version. Great First map, keep up the good work.
Look forward to playing the new light version.
