[WIP] dod_punch

hi all, this a map i started working on it some days go.

the idea of the map arrived to my head one day while i was dreaming in bed xD

the idea, is make a map very similar like dod_anzio, but with a game type like dod_salerno, 1 midlle 2 man cap flag and four individuals. and with no buildings, only trees, gardens....

build insteed of the beach, a port for german submarines, and put the respawns in another place. wit 2 diferens spawn point areas for each team.

with this info i did this little minimap xD:

the idea is making this map like anzio, without buildings, with a submarines port, with gamstyle like salerno.

so we could have a new map like anzio-salerno, but ambiented in a frech town near the atlantic sea.

yes, i am using all custom content i can found "which is nice going with the map"

the map size now is on 45MB, i think its final size could be around 80, but it does not matter with fast download system we had to day and specially in my server xd.

The size may not matter for people in your server, but not every server has fast download. Just something to keep in mind.

i have the 75% of map done, and i adding some new custom content which my production team is doing, like new propaganda posters in walls, custom flags and materials, to make the map more beautifull.

Looks ok but where do you get the idea that it is similar to anzio or salerno I just dont see it :)

maybe its the amount of flags ???

for the map structure is like anzio, the minimap, the plaza where the church is, the submarine area is in anzio the bridge area, the allies secondary spawn, is in anzio the axis spawn area.

the allies principal spawn is in the tomb area behind anzios church.
the stug is in a street like first allies but in another way.


i am doing it making the streets trying to keep them similar to anzio's overview, but adding 2 more spawn areas, and change spawns from its original site.

and of course with no buildings only "gardens", and adding a port on the beach area.

i dont know if you understad the idea of the map.

i think you could see it better when i finished it xD

It sounds like the same size and layout as Anzio, without all the buildings.

Again, keep in mind that a very large map (60-70mb or more) might be prohibitive for people who don't download it from a server with quick download, or don't want to waste that much space on their hard drive.

map size is on 45MB actually, and its practically finished, i dont think final size could be grater than 60MB i am not adding more custom content apart from new propaganda posters

also we are working on a better and real red cross tent.
special thanks to propen for his flags, and posters, and the textures of the red cross tent.

we made a little play test, and FPS are really good, we think map could be finished this weekend, with an overview, and a skybox.
we only need to finished the german spawn area. ;)

Very Nice, I need to play it!

I think you have to close some zones and add details on the bunkers zone and fix some bugs but I love the map!

It looks like there are a few errant brushes, but otherwise, it looks good. I'm assuming since it's completely outdoors, you'll be able to fire grenades over the bushes and shrubbery?

i got a problem, when you download it from a server, it says that map is different from the server someone's knew how to solve this?

i tried in mine server, but when you download it from the server, it says that is different

also i tried compiling with a new name, but still happens the same, when download finished it says that the map is different

its possible that the problem was caused by pakrat or man??

also tried to pu it on webspace without bzipcompress , doesn´t work .
I think you must recompile it but i´m not sure . maybe Albatros can help .

Don't forget to add at least 16 VALID spawns per side, 18 is preferred...

All those red spawns are invalid, you need to move them above the ground more.

Apparently the version we have (b1) only has 19 total so I had to fix them myself.

Also, thumbnails are nice...having to wait for all the huge images to load so I can read the page sucks, every time one loads the page moves. Just make the thumbs link to the larger image for people who want to see them full res.

This map is looking great. I like the details very much.
However...
Some stuff seems to defy the laws of physics.
The plane in the tower doesn't seem right. I think that any plane would crash right through a tower this small, but since I like the idea I suggest not removing it, but maybe let it stick more out, so it gives the idea that the plane got a little bit farther. :-)
Also the pole that crashed into the truck seems a bit unnatural. I don't see a dent in the truck, and I don't think it would stay like that, it should roll off. I would try to have a semi-crashed truck, with the pole halfway down the truck.
Two minor things, but I think adjusting them would make the map more believable.
Anyway... I really do like the map.

Nice idea and it looks good so far. One thing I will comment on, you might want to add some varity to the wall textures, there seems to be only a couple used when you could use say 5-10 different textures for more realism.

just a little detail, that's not how banisters are made :p They must be perpendicular to the ground, not the angle.

Looking great!

The one thing i can see immediatly is that the fog of the skybox doesn't match the atmosphere of the the playable map.
