your computer room is too cold, try increasing the temperature which should keep hammer from freezing

I just can't resist when someone uses the slang 'freezing up' for their computer locking up.

Anyways, like you said, using too many wads could be messing it up. Try just using the jagd or kraftstoff wads.

Try just using 3 wads (basic.wad, halflife.wad, MYMAPcustomtextures.wad).

Ur using a lot of wads, and I'm guessing u have a low end system...

Try getting an older driver or try using 3.4

and if you have that card ir dosnt seemlike you would have a "low end system" check for memory leaks to. maybe your hammer DL was corrupted

Pfft, it has nothing to do with how many wads he has. I've used like 20 wads at once before with no problems. My guess is it's a problem with his computer.

It could be overheating. Try taking the side off your computer while it's running and putting your finger right on the processor, if it feels warm it's probable overheating. I put a big fan in my computer and I haven't had a game or Hammer crash since.

You could also have a bunch of nasty spy ware using up all your system resources. Try downloading spybot search & destroy and running it if you don't already have it.

Also, with windows XP, at least on my computer, when you run HL in OpenGL and then quit HL.exe will continue to run in theprocesses taking up massive ammounts of RAM, this could be making it freeze for you too. Try pressing ctrl + alt + del and closing HL if it's running.
These are things that I've had make my computer run slow and make it freeze.

uhhh..I forget, but my comp runs at about 110 degrees comfortably, it varies a lot by the hardware you got in your comp, but just putting your hand in there isnt exactly the fest way.

but for the spyware thing, its a good idea, get ad-aware somewhere, its free and its good.

And your getting lucky if you can use 20 wads with no problems, i go 1 over the limit and my map gets hosed. Good points though i must say.

Ummm no... I have resently formatted my drive... INstalled a fresh install of Winxp... Its not the wads, nor the heat. Thanks for the help but nothing in here has any relavence to hammer crashing. I have redloaded hammer many times. It still is crappy. It worked on my win98 box but now not anymore. And im running hammer v3.4 i never said 3.5.
