Remember... (muzzle flashes)

Haha, remember when muzzle flashes had first gotten hacked into the game using custom models. I was checking the forum 5 times a day so I could get the latest guns with it. Then they added official ones in the next patch. This forum used to be booming...

I don't think there's not really much more to mod anymore. The DoDSVU, plus a number of other skins for variety, have basically changed everything worth changing to such a great level that more work doesn't seem to be needed.

Remember when someone edited the player model to point the weapon in the direction the player looked while crouching, around b2.0 i think?

to expand upon what Sabre said....
Custom player models is about the only thing that would really be left to do now that consistency issues have been resolved

Unfortunately, Wile E, this game is dead and needs to be put out to pasture. With no updates, no plans for updates, no announcements about anything and with devs being quoted a while back as saying [sic] "DoD:S is what we always wanted DoD to be". There's no hope for the game.

DoD:S cut out pretty much everything anyone liked about DoD (bleeding, Brits, G43, M3A1, Carbine as a class, MG34, etc.) and made it uber-newbie friendly, while ruining it for everyone else.

Yes, it was fun, but it's incredibly stagnant now and there's a lot of games that are better to play nowadays. It's unfortunate that the game died, but that's what lack of development does. I think most of the modding community, myself included, have moved on and only visit these forums for the discussions.

I would completely disagree

It's unfortunate [that games die] but that's what lack of development does.
I would strongly agree.

I agree on both points Dillinger.

It's funny to think back on the milestone achievements of the DOD MSA and mapping forums. One of my favorites was Capt. Glimsharp's MOH-Style sleeve replacement that the user had to hack on him/herself . Distant sounds originally done by editing p_models. Etc These forums always managed to out-do themselves with every release.

The breakthroughs were great. Glimsharps animations, the ironsight pack, etc. back in the beta days were great.

It's unfortunate that most of the community has departed, but that comes with the times. Why stick around with a game that has no support any longer? I think TF2 will be the new place to be in regards to VALVe games.
