bump mapping on buildings??

i was wondering, i saw wile's bump mapped sandbags and thought...
is that possible for brick tex's in game

i don't have the resources to do this....

It's possible, but from my experience of normal mapping textures that aren't normal mapped in environments, it could be a big pain to get it right.

Talk about killing FPS! :eek:Agreed..It would be impossible to play. If Wile's bumpmapped trees and sandbags hurt fps for many people...I can only imagine what this would do.

Meh, then I don't know how other companies pull it off. Maybe it's because they support 'em right out of the box (CoD2 has bump mapping EVERYWHERE and runs fine for me).

You can do it, no problem. Depending on the performance of the rig, you can run it too.

COD2 has a lot, but i cant run with the same settings as a run DODs

First 8 CSS maps (made by Turtle Rock I guess) got normals on almost all surfaces.
I don't think that Willie's bumpmapped trees and sandbags take much fps, unless you have really old and low mem card.

In Source, yeah, but not in next gen games. It's still better than doing it all with polys.
