[REL] dod_goodwood_b1 (#1 Caen 1.3 remake)

after months of hard work i present you a dod_caen 1.3 remake calls dod_goodwood

the alpha version was tested on a full server and we all have great fun to play my adaption of caen. i`m hope you enjoy it.

ok..some little bugs are still present.. but i wrote that to my list for the beta2 release^^ but at some windows you can not jump out ;)

Its a good attempt but i find there are a few problems with it. these aren't just things to make it look more like the orignal.


Areas between 1st and 2nd flags are huge are open so will make capturing the last flag defend by a well placed mg impossible
I can't belive you got rid of the hotel in the main plaza
Main Plaza is really small considering its the main killing ground of the map
The rubblepiles are hidious

I see that you are aware of the "windows" and holes in the wall that cant be exited. The fifth picture is of another wall opening that slows down movement.

nice job green!
it felt very very good when playing it.

my only complaints are (most of it mentioned before)
- the main plaza seems to be a little bit too small
- it's very hard to get the first flag
- 2 horses... it's a nice idea but then again looks overloaded to me
- i got stuck in that area between 2nd and 3rd axis flag (under the wood summers). just happened once so i cant specify it any further.

again: i love what you have created so far :)

- the way from the 2nd axis to the 3rd flag was recreated in the version Beta2

hmm i think this is not a fog map.. when u look from the allied sniper spot to the axis sniper spot with fog on map on plaza you see nothing.. this destroy the caen feeling i think.

i have 4 buildings from a mapper friend. so i have enough own buildings from my other maps.. i can delete this buildings and place own buildings. i edit this and place own brushes. but i must look first.

Put some kind of warning on that doorway to let the Allies know if they walk through it, they'll die. A skull & crossbones or something.

Same thing with Axis spawn, most people probably won't even notice this box.

Overall, it does feel like Caen. It feels big and there's lots of places to go. Nice. :)

Put in a func_teamwall entity for both spots to block the teams you don't want to enter.

There's a spot on a wall that alternates between transparent and flickering with some weird ladder texture (I believe) there (between Axis 1st and 2nd).

The map dod_caen is the intellectual property of the person that designed it (unfortunately, I can't remember off the top o' the head who it was.... sorry). The original map was remade by Valve when DoD went retail, so the map, and its layout is now owned by Valve. We don't really know which 1.3 stock maps Valve is planning on Sourcifying, so we usually reserve "official" names for Valve.

I didn't say that dod_ is copyrighted either. I was saying that dod_caen is copyrighted. I was putting emphasis on the dod_ part because dod_caen is owned by Valve or whoever.

I agree you can't copyright a city name. I assure you though, if you were to release your map under the name dod_caen, there would be problems knocking at your door.

I doubt that Valve will care too much about there being a map named dod_caen out there unless they decide to remake it (which they very well might). However, it is wrong to just rename a person's map without their permission.
