[Model] curtains

here's a little goodie for all the mappers out there, doing sweet maps!
hang these curtains above your windows and feel the warmth of a summerbreeze in your map ;)

the models will be in the dod/models/props_windows folder.

they are static, no ragdoll/fancy cloth simulation and no animations...

they have a collision model, so if you wan't people to be able to walk through, you just need to deactivate collisions on them.

also, you can shoot through them, even when the collision model is on. they were compiled with the properties of carpet.

texture sizes:
curtains: 256x512 pixel with alphachannel
metal pole: 64x128 pixel

lod models:
lod0 = ~1400 polys (switches after 15 units to lod1)
lod1 = ~760 polys (switches after 50 units to lod2)
lod2 = ~120 polys

this is what they look like:

this is what they look like ingame:

and here you can download them:
curtains_v1.zip (http://pedroleum.dod-federation.com/models/curtains_v1.zip)

why do i feel like a sales representative for inhouse decoration???
go mappers, gogogogo!! :)

These are fancy and will try to get all my clients to use them, seeing as though I am an Interior Design student.

Great work pedro.....as always.

those look AWESOME. However I would refrain from using them for windows that a mapper intends for mg's to be able to deploy.

Looks awesome, but the pole kinda looks like that of one on a shower curtain. Still an amazing prop I would've never thought of. Wonderful work. :D

As always. :P

Bit difficult to get a 3D-preview on these in Hammer, the curtains doesn't show up unless they intersect with another model, in the 3D-view.

zynome, yes, hammer isn't showing them correctly (i think bc of the alpha channel) but you can bypass that by changing the material setting temporarily.

if you open up the .vmt files of the curtains, change the line that sais
"$translucent" 1
to
"$alphatest" 1

just make sure you change it back before you take a look ingame.

btw. this way, you can also make them non-transparent if you want that.

Actually, you could do some torn/grimey/holed ones for that wartorn look.

Any MG guy would more than likely tear down the curtains if he was going to fire from the window so some ripped ones might look good too.

That'd be pretty simple by making/modifying the alpha channel. Unless you wanted them to look burned at the bottom or something, then you'd have to modify the skin. :(

You want a real challenge, see if you can get them to react to the wind entity (ala cables). But these are very nice. Clever idea.

Impressed. But as said before, a mapper needs to use them wisely so they dont become an annoyance!

I think the curtains are fine to use on any window, so long as they are set to non-solid.

Actually, all windows and doors should be set at non-solid, along with the curtains so the players doesn't get stuck on them.

We could use some wooden staircase railings -- I seem to use and re-use those black iron ones to death!
