Squad 2

Squad 3

Squad 4

Here they are, the MUCH prettier version of the old class-based packs from long ago. This turned out to be a lot more work than I thought it would be. Boy, I'm starting to sound like a broken record. You'd think after all this experience I'd be better at guessing this stuff. Well for what it's worth - here they are. If I had unlimited time in the world to work on this stuff, I would have added a lot more changes between the weapon classes.

The sniper for the axis - I just wanted to do something different. Unfortunately there's the issue with the sleeve skins; I basically made a compromise by adding a sleeve skin to the German sniper rifle.

The compromise is that if you switch to a pistol or spade you will not see the camo sleeve. Conversely if another axis team member picks up the sniper rifle from the ground they will have a camo sleeve regardless of class. Yes I realized this will bug some people, so alternate plain snipers are included in the axis squads.

Available in both standard 1024x1024 skins and Hi-Res 2048x2048. A quick word here..... more than 75% of the screenshots taken for the previous pics were taken using the standard-sized skins. Due to the sheer number of texture files involved, I highly recommend you use the standard size. The Hi-Res version did work on my machine (which is 4 years old) but I did notice a performance hit at times. But if you JUST GOTTA have the Hi-Res, and you have a rig that can handle it, well that's what the download is there for :D

Will get mirrors up and running as soon as possible.

Server whitelist additions for server operators are also included

And something not mentioned in the readme credits, thanks to all the clans out there who let me sit in spectator mode endlessly making sure things worked and taking screenshots - P.O.W., 28th, 5thRB, eGO.

Almost forgot - it's my birthday. Yay old dudes! Yes that's right, I spent the remainder of my birthday putting this together. I am so computer addicted :o

Incredible work. Out of curiosity, how long did it take to make just one set? If I remember correctly, updating a class based skin pack (even minor touches) took forever...

And how did you get phong working with a class based system?

PS: This made me want to play DoD:S again. That's how good it is. (been console gaming this whole summer and a little Insurgency)

Wile, would these work with custom 28th ID skin?
They look great!

Actually I was writing that on the 5th of July.... ;) When I was an infant my parents told me the fireworks were for my birthday, and I believed them (I secretly still think they are)

Thanks for kind comments as always :) Just putting up a few more screens because it's pretty hard to squeeze a good screenshot of 24 different skins in a couple of pictures. BTW the Hameau map is really good for taking screenshots.

*sigh* no matter how hard you try to prevent the clones, they just keep coming back :D

these look great, and if i still played the game i would use them. however, after playing INS, i cant play a game like this where it takes a whole magazine to kill one person

I want to apologize for trying to work on that pure_server_nightmare for this the other night. I was dead tired, had put files in the wrong place, but was getting crc checks on the materials used for these models - not Valve's materials. Then I somehow forgot to put in the code brackets.

Anyhow, I would just discard the pure_server_whitelist.txt included with any of those packs for now and just use the included one found in hl2 directory or run sv_pure 0. Another option is just to add the custom player section of steam's whitelist to yours.

I'll spend some quality time on trying to get the whitelist a little tighter if you are going to run sv_1 and want to allow these.

No bother man! It was just the way the PM was worded I thought you gave me a "thumbs up" for it being finished :) These things happen.

I'm a little confused about the wehrmacht sniper sleeve thingy. I just want the plain non-camo player/sleeve.

then delete the files stated in the read-me and just install the included extra skin

I was working on sprites to accompany the release, but I got a bit bogged down in work and what-not. Expect them soon, when I get the time to finish them off. In the meantime, excellent work Coyote. Your work is always appreciated.

What kind of sprites are you talking about Sabre?

f64
07-08-2007, 07:48 AM
Make sure you throw the pure_server_whitelist folder away. Far away. lol

That was about half finished and really, the simple way to allow these is just like the stock pure_server_whitelist.txt indicates with these lines:

models\player\... allow_from_disk
materials\models\player\... allow_from_disk

Add these lines for a little tighter ship:

materials\models\player\american\american_body.vmt from_steam
materials\models\player\american\american_body.vtf from_steam //comment out to allow custom Steam model skins
materials\models\player\german\german_body.vmt from_steam
materials\models\player\german\german_body.vtf from_steam //comment out to allow custom Steam model skins

The highest degree of 'security' is involved. PM me if you're interested in this.

These kinds of sprites (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72427). I'd done the first squad by time of release, but I've not got too far on the others. Expect them in time, but not too soon.

I don't really traverse these parts anymore. Haven't played DoD in months now. But I might fire up steam just to try these out, really class work, Wile.

Great work. The axis Waffen SS looks great.

I never like the facial hair however. when you create a class with facial hair, you tend to notice clones all over the place alot more than usual. Take the AI german with a mustache on Callof duty 2 for a good example.

Im going to hold off on the allied packs, but Im defineately going with the waffen ss.

Any plans to your earlier release "Ranger Joe Redux" as class based? Im using them now so im curious.

You also may want to pick a couple of famous divisions like the big red one (1st ID) or the 28th ID (ying yang) sometime in the future.

regards

I basically do a skin to represent a type of uniform, something that is really visually different from other skins to give people a wider selection. Then I just basically assign a unit to it that might have used that uniform. What I'm trying to say is I'm not leaning towards making multiple downloads of what are basically the same skins just with different unit patches. In some cases I have done special request skins for media projects or for a medium-sized audience like a popular clan server, but I keep that very limited, it is time consuming. The best advice I can give anyone if they want to add a particular patch or whatever is to download VTFEdit and spend a couple hours with it. Something like a unit patch should be no real problem for a beginner.

Plus, aren't these new Rangers pretty much just like the old Ranger Joe, except these are 5th Rangers...and the old Joe was a 2nd Ranger?

Plus, aren't these new Rangers pretty much just like the old Ranger Joe, except these are 5th Rangers...and the old Joe was a 2nd Ranger?I flipped the uniforms. It was pointed out that most Ranger units had the M1941 uniforms (I was just going off a D-Day pic that looked like M1943 uniforms). Plus it looks more like SVP now anyway.

But yes they are basically the same exact uniform choices - the M1941 and the M1943. And yes the really ancient version of Ranger Joe was 2nd rangers.

8/10

The faces could use some more work, add some more wrinkles to them or maybe stubble. Make them look a little bit wartorn. Right now faces are too clean and do not fit to the wartorn uniforms. And I don't like the mustache.

In 1024 version some datails are very blurred i.e. holes in allie assault jacket look like white stains. I understand that you have only resized vtf, however you could clean it a bit.

Using 3rd ID and Wermaht.

QTF...
Your player skins are getting better and better, maybe that's why I can't find better skins than yours, they're 1337. :p

"...Right now faces are too clean and do not fit to the wartorn uniforms..."

I agree with Woland's statement, but in fact in game you barely notice their face details and even the dirt in the uniforms, so it makes almost no difference...
Anyway, some dirty faces would be welcome. :D

Keep up the good work Wile
