[REL] dod_cherbourg_rc1

I got round to fixing the last few things from b2 last night, and since I didn't get that many problems reported for b2 and the layout already had years of testing in the original, I decided to release this as RC1. The main changes since b2 are improved spawns (no need to crouch anywhere now, and allied exits widened), updated tree props to hopefully fix the fps issues some people had, and a few minor texture/detail fixes.

I forgot the readme in the .zip, so I'm uploading it again. I thought it'd be done by now, but it should be up in 10 minutes.

Good morning Surgeon.
Congrats on the new release.
The link to cherbourg_rc1 works but the 22.8 MB file can not be opened. The error message (winzip) is that "the file does not appear to be a valid archive" and "unexpected end of archive" with winrar. Can you take a peek at the file when you have a chance?

ZIP file is corrupt. Not having much luck today?

Okay what Darklord said was true.

also:
First run-through on the map DOD:S crashed. This almost never happens to me. Came up with a couple errors, one being a run-time. I was on the allied-side balcony overlooking the courtyard flag (with the 2 boxes) just looking around when it crashed. This may very well have been a memory problem on my end, I will test it further when I have more time.

the overview was zipped in the bsp, but obviously isn't working. i'm uploading the map with a res and separate overview files now, there's a link for the overview on its own in the first post until its uploaded.

I like it. the allied spawn is now easier to exit. hopefully it is now fast enough to be at the 2 man flag as the axis

One little thing that annoys me is the dynamic shadows pointing straight north, at a 90 degree angle :P

First screen along made me splooge. Looks awesome and I hope I can get it put up on the {CoN} East Coast server. :D

Although one thing does stump me. In the 5th shot down, of the interior of the building, wouldn't there be a lot more dirt if a bomb blew the house that much apart?

i played it with about 5 players last night. obviously not the amount you need to make the gameplay effective. but playing it I did see a lot of improvements, so thats good work
though the very far side seemed to not be used so much.
ill check back with this when ive played with more people.
are you strict with keeping it exactly the same? i cant remember too much about the original anyways

Everyone seems to like the map over at the =10th= I know I enjoy it. When we played it last night though we noticed a building that could be nice to go inside of for cover. It's the building just straight outside the allies spawn. Did you remove it from play just because it was an unecessary building?

Well just had a quick run around and it looks amazing so well done.

Few things I found, the pics are the attachments.

First pic, the lighting on the fence seems bit off
Second, I kept getting stuck on the sofa, as I walked past it
Thirdly, the gap between the balcony and the wall, you can get stuck there. You cant stand up and takes while to get out.

centurion: There was never an enterable house there in the original, just a huge bank and a wide area of grass. I only added the interior for realism and extra detail, you could never go in there before RC1 and it'd probably affect the balance too much, but I thought it just looked better than using a solid building with opaque windows.

Adam: The balcony is supposed to be far away from the wall on the left enough that you can't jump across to reach the overpass, but still close enough to the ladder and to keep aligned with the textures, so I'll either playerclip that or move it somehow.
