Thought some of you might find this interesting if you didn't already know about it.

Photoshop CS3 now has support for importing 3D models. Yes, you can import a model and texture it in 3D. I haven't tried it myself but from what I've read you can either paint directly onto the model and/or the 2D texture and it'll update in real-time.

Seems it supports all the common 3D formats - OBJ, 3DS, DAE, etc.

I don't know a lot about making custom skins, but does that mean that it's going to be much more easier to do?

Not necessarily. It'll sure as hell be a lot more useful, though.

Will be ultra-uselful when starting off with a blank UV skin.

Well it seems my sources lied. I had a go with the trial and at least from my attempts its seems you can import the model but not paint on it directly. All the textures come in as layers and you double click to edit them. You can paint on them but it doesn't update in realtime and you have to save to see the different.

So unless I've missed something it's no different from editing the texture normally in photoshop, saving the file and hitting re-fresh in HLMV :(

Yes but they have the basics in place and im sure thats going to be the first suggestions/complaints they get.

"Why cant I paint directly on the model?!?"

I wouldnt be surprised at all to see it in the future.

Damn you!!!! Almost had my hopes up for a sec there.

Its getting a bit overcast over here.... sniffle.

Well, Its a start for Adobe. Honestly I dont know why this isnt intergrated yet as 99.9% of everyone who does any texturing does so in photoshop. Surely the demand is there.

Im sure with this "teaser" deal they have going outrage within the community will certainly spread like wildfire and their email servers will be overflowing with "wtf's" until they finally intergrate 3d painting.

The only program ive ever seen paint well directly in real-time on 3d models is Deep Paint 3d. Unfortuneately its just not photoshop.
