for the river continuing thing...

You can add a waterfall w/cliffs on one side and the other side would be another set of waterfalls that drop down then trail off in the distant skybox.

Just an idea !

Are those Flashy's tree models? If they are...they're going to kill the fps. :(

Its not Schwetz without the original style bridge and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Queen.

Ah, my many suicide attempts to get Queen to play. :)

I was actually thinking of putting the original bridge back in. I had it in at first then it dident look that good in source so i took it out. As for the trees they are just stationary trees i got from a tree pack in these forums. The fps have been pretty good about 80-90 in the streets but drops down to 30 in the middle. And thats running on a 7800gt. Alot of optimization to be done.

Hi there,

first, to ultranew_b: the mapname is taken from a city in germany called 'Schwetzingen' and there're no waterfalls near to it, so I would consider to put some meadows on the outer sides.

rest to fikes: try to make some of the buildings more look like the early 20th century, cause some of the buildings have rounded corners which weren't current at that time the war took place. Also an idea for the bridge, try to get the model from the map 'ludendorff', it looks more or less as a train bridge but has more the feeling of the original one.

Just ideas and keep up the good work and want to fight on it soon ;)

Slainte,

I have had a great idea for the water to continue on so that im not to worried about. The biggest problem I have been running into is there is soo many just buildings and no land that im using up all the window models and they are starting to get repetitive.

Have you been trying the many different skins yet?

Also, you could try using windows without shutters and making them yourself with the shutter texture... then you can easily change the pitch or angle of each shutter and break too repetitive scenes.

Cheers, some nice progress there.

ya I have seen that done before I forget where, I think anvil has that, its a simple way to make some nice looking war town shutters. thanks albatros.

Like the new pics. I like how you did the river banks. Personally I think maps should avoid any kind of water deep enough to swim in, given I doubt a real soldier could swim that well with all their gear. If you go with that mindset, then water should be shallow enough to wade in, completely inaccessable, or drown you if you get in over your head.

I suppose in the case of Schwetz one could have a few fords in the river - shallow marshy areas that are easy to wade across.

Are you going to be expecting any performance probs with all that water? I love the expansive water idea it reminds me of escape hugely. I think the huge think with repeating windows is making unique trim and varying colors on the buildings with the same windows. Or perhaps use more of the same windows and differentiate them when you have an interesting or unique building.

Well im trying to keep fps high but in the middle its been sort of hard. through the streets its been about 80-100 on my 7800gt which is not bad but can drop to 30 at times but nothing optimization cant fix. The hardest part of the middle is it needs to look nice with alot of props which creats a problem and the water must be there also another problem and you cant do fading props becuase everything needs to be seen in the middle and since the middle is huge as well the whole map its been hard. Changing the middle up a little like I did helped some as well I switched to cheep water which gave at least 8fps so around 40 in the midde so we will see and im running on a fast compile so on a full it might be a little better lighted and all. and im not sure about the windows Im not sure how to use little but still make it look good. since schwetz is huge as well the buildings its a hard process.

If this map gets made, I will likely never leave it... lol.

I loved dod_schwetz.. I don't think there's a map I played more in 2.0.

I especially loved the win music for both sides. Well, I say both sides, but I always played allied (and when I couldn't I secretly hoped the allies would win) just to hear boogie woogie bugle boy play.:p

Those two songs are still my victory music today in Source, believe it or not.

Nice job so far, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Well I can guarantee it will get done just idk when. Its been taking some time but thats not just because im slow but I have had allot of things to do. Really everything is done besides propping and detailed propping then optimizing in which I will work on the 3d skybox after all that has been completed but im prob looking at a test play after all propping is completed even before optimizing so I can see who had what and what needs to be optimized in what area.

I'd be HIGHLY interested in any kind of beta testing for this map. Please PM when you get to that stage.

Thanks again.

you should make those tanks shermans....maybe the exploded ones on the bridge to go along with the allied assault.

Im not going to lie this map would have been done by now but to be honest I haven't even touched it for about 4 months or more. I guess ill start it back up and at least finish so you guys can play. I also barely play anymore so thats why it was not a big deal if I got done it for myself or not. Ill do some more and keep you posted over the nest few weeks. Peace.
