[REL] dod_timberland_b3

Here is my first map. It began as a test to see if it was possible to have decent frames with many trees. Well, I was able to come up with something that has good fps, and may be room for improvement, but school starts next Monday so I figured this is as close as releasable as I can get.

The screenshots do not really do the map justice, but the gameplay has gotten really good reviews from the first 2 betas on the [415] server. It was amazing the tactics people started using. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy, and any comments/suggestions/feedback will always be appreciated. There is 32 spawns, 5 flags, 2 which are double cap (plane and flaks).

Let's try this again.

dod_timberland_b3.bsp (19.7MB) (http://files.filefront.com//;7796247;;/)

Everything is packed into the .bsp, but you may want to double check the icons. There is a .res file included.

Enjoy!

I think I know the problem Rosie, the .vmt for these icons is like this:

"$baseTexture" "\sprites\obj_icons/icon_obj_bf109_axis"
"$baseTexture" "\sprites\obj_icons/icon_obj_bf109_allies"

And it needs to be like this:

"$baseTexture" "/sprites/obj_icons/icon_obj_bf109_axis"
"$baseTexture" "/sprites/obj_icons/icon_obj_bf109_allies"

Thanks for the heads up. Go figure....you try to make it error free....The .res file has it the corrected way.

Is there anything I can do about that without people needing to change the .vmt?

I have a .zip file of all the icons I used with the corrected .vmt, but it seems as though my FTP site is down currently. Would anyone be so kind as to PM me an email address so I can have someone mirror the .zip file?

The res file has all of that listed but there are no files included in the rar except the bsp and readme.
A res file lists the files necessary for in game download that aren't packed in the bsp

I'm uploading what I believe to be correct. Give me about 15 minutes to upload both files.

Ok, I THINK everything is done correctly. If it's not, then I should never release a map again. :p

The new link is up and ready.

Its good - no purple icon
Packaging and uploading to server now

*Update*
Ummm, Maybe I was up too late playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ;)
Is the 5th hud icon supposed to be the plane? Its a tower in the map.
The 4th hud objective is the burning plane.

And dont be silly. Packaging is just details and something the rest of us can help with.

Well, I was trying to symbolize the plane as the airstrip w/ all the planes sitting on the ground, and a fallen tree for the downed plane, because of all the downed trees at the crash site. I guess that's why I am an Interior Design student, we think all wacky. :D

I attempted to make an objective icon for the control tower, but I couldn't make one that I was satisfied releasing, so this will have to do for now.

I hope everyone has as much fun playing this as we had testing it.

Thanks Formologic!

really good map - will be added to our rotation !

Found 1 small problem at the back of the Axis spawn (near the rocks). Someone even fell out ot the map somehow when the allied won the round....

to find the spot just follow the edge at the back of the axis spawn.

Wow, that's the first I've heard of it. I will get that fixed ASAP. Glad you liked it. Thanks!

Its a nice map and we have it on some of our servers.. the only negativ thing I hear is about the size, its to big !

I'll see about reducing the size. I have eliminated a lot of unnecessary stuff for the next version. Can't make any guarantees though.

Glad you like the map though.

I love the size of the map....with 30 players it's just big enough that you can roam free and sneak up on people....I wouldn't change it !

For the rest of you about the size, I have reduced the size of the map by a small amount, just in certain spots to make it not seem so much like a box. This should also help increase the FPS as I was able to reduce some of the models. I don't think that reducing the size as I have is going to affect the gameplay in any way, in fact, should make it better as I should be able to provide more ground cover.

Hey form you should look at the pine trees from Episode 1, they would be perfect for this map, they are more open at the bottoms.
