Unfortunately it would require somebody re-compiling the arm v_model to use 2 different hand skins. I requested this very same thing a long time ago, but nobody took up the challenge.

If somebody actually did it, I would be using it also.

I just tried to see where solution was hidden but couldn't vind it.
The Arms incl hands are inside the v_weapon file right?
Isn't hacking the v_weapon model an option?
So messing arround with texture referer?

Can anyone put me in the right direction where to look.

Not sure what you're getting at. When you compile a model, you can specify more than one skin (i.e. like the axis and allied skin are both used on the same model). What someone would literally have to to is hack the model to accept 2 different skins for the hands, instead of just one.

Yeah having seperate hands would be nice. tired of axis wearing the same spectacular gloves that the allies wear, :D

Don't forget to add the procedural bones (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71627) so the wrists don't have that nasty twist in them.

Yep will do in next compile.

For this "fix" to work, all models need to be compiled a sertain way though, well the v_models.

It's just a matter of letting compiler know to use the hand texture on axis or allied side.
I still not know exactly why it works, cause it's not really logical, but it works.

This really should be fixed by the game devs.
Also the name v_axis_sleeve and us_sleeve names is just not logical...or is it.
Something just came up while typing it.
Ill investigate further.

EDIT: unfortunately there seems to be NO WAY of getting this to work without (re)compiling the models.

I want to compile all the models for this use but then I'd like someone to decompile ALL default v_models for me and zip it and make sure I get it.
I don't got time for that.

Now this is sweet. :)

So what you're trying to say (I think) is that you just realized you'd have to re-compile every single v_model and you don't have that kind of time?

Heh, well it was so late that night and was working like a madman on it, that I was so exitet I posted that and was realising that it wouldn't take that much time as I thought ;)

I thought this thread would be filled up in no time with cheers but no

O I wouldn't worry about it :) besides, if it can't be done through some sort of VMT trickery I personally don't think the gains are equal to the amount of work you would have to do. Seprate hand skins would be nice, but most people will not think it's really worth having to download and replace ALL the v_models.

*update*

I just compiled all US weapon models.
In general it works like a charm, but few problems.

1) The 30cal doesn't compile correctly.
The weapon is oposite of the arms (mirrored)

2) For some weapons the arms are twisted.
I just decompiled and recompiled default and didn't do any custom animations.

So if someone can help me on this I can release it.

It's quite cool to see it work.
US can use custom US hands/gloves and same for German side, so both sides will have its own hands/gloves material, how cool is that!
