[REL] dod_fuel_b3 (kraftstoff remake)

Here is the second public beta release of dod_fuel.

Except for a few small changes every here and there the only difference from the previous version is the lighting. As you can see in the pictures it is now a day time map, which seems to be what most people want.

I hope you'll enjoy the new lighting, and hopefully the next, more detailed version, won't be too far away. There are still alot of quite dull areas in the map which I'm gonna try to improve.

"Sharebigfiles" works without signing up, I didn't even have to sign up to upload the file. :)

Although, I don't see a reason for not having an accont on SunLit, a great dod page IMO. ;)

Thanks guys :)

I personally loved the original which is why I started this project, and I don't really see anything I would want to improve from it. Although I know there are alot of people out there with a different oppinion. :)

I have to say this is a really nice remake of a great map. I like the changes (especially the lighter touch). I believe you are correct in saying there's not much you can improve on...I think it's just about the most perfect layout. I'll make sure the devs get a look at it (I've been pimping customs to them recently).

Is spawn switching possible???

Meaning switching attack to defend after end of round?

Yes, if a server runs the plugin.

Thanks alot FuzzDad, glad you like it! And some pimping to the devs would definitely not hurt. :)

Server plugins, as Propaganda suggested, sounds like the best solution for your question, Cranbarry. As I've said on the dod Federation forums, I want to stay as true to the original as possible, and a thing like that feels pretty risky to put into the map itself.

The thing I like most about this map Nubbits is the fact that you did a remake without letting it run away on you and becoming something the map wasn't, as it's sometimes easy to overdo stuff in source. When I look at this map it makes me realize that sometimes sticking to basics and staying true to your goal creates something pretty and playable. I get the same feeling when I look at strand, somehow it doesn't appear "strained", like some massive project, but ends up looking way better and playing way more smoothly then anyone could hope for. Honestly this is one of the best customs I have played for source, and I love that it's a remake. Some people have complained "dod source is no fun and I don't know why", when I play this map I never feel that way. This map makes the game fun. Me, I liked the old lighting, I didn't mind it at all, but this is fine too. 10 out of 10 for Nubbits and dod fuel.

Nice looking map !!

You have any original levels in the works? Re-makes are fine and dandy but they never impress me as much as original/new material.

Thanks everyone! :) That's quite a review Propaganda, thanks alot :D

I've had a few projects that I'm afraid I've abandoned, have some thought about doing an urban map, but nothing real yet.

Remaking Kraftstoff was kind of the perfect project for me atm. I'm studying about 5-6 days a week which doesn't leave much time for mapping. Especially since it isn't exactly the only thing I want to do on my spare time ;). It also turned out to be a great way of learning "advanced" mapping (like optimizing) and I can really recommend it to anyone who feels like he/she doesn't quite know enough about mapping to do an own map.

I'll probably start a new (non-remake) project once I'm done with fuel, but I can't promise I'll ever finnish anything else :/

Nubbits has released a CTF version of fuel_b3
dod_fuelCtF_b1 (http://www.sunlitgames.net/index.php?module=ExDownloads&func=details&fid=439&cid=2)
Flags instead of det does work, although I love the timed det format :)

We have had one posted comment so far
Seems a bit too Allied biased. Perhaps moving one of the two-man cap points closer to axis spawn, and one of the one-man cap-points closer to axis spawn (perhaps the cap points on the right-hand side from the axis spawn?) would make it more balanced. As it sits now, within the first 20 seconds, allies have all but 2 flags capped, and definitely have a 5-7 second advantage to getting to both 2-man cap points from spawn. I've seen more biased maps before however :D

Looks really good, can't wait to give it a try. The original map was always very popular.

Hehe, you're quick Rosie :)

Acctually there is already a second beta of this map. The first one was mainly for Bennett over at CAL to try out. With CALs help I've made some adjustments to the gameplay, mainly closed off some buildings and moved a couple of flags a little bit.

The second beta of the CtF version can be found here:

Congratulations nubbits, lovely map.

I think the capture the flag version is better than the classic version and fully competitive.

You should rename "dod_fuel_CtF" to "dod_fuel" and make a detonation/tnt version of the classic version "dod_fuel_tnt" ^^

Great Job :)

It's only pro-allies when the axis don't work as a team. This type of map really requires players to pull together, communicate and capture the objectives collectively. Look at Jagd for example.

Most defence maps are pro- whatever team is defending.

That's why playing the Germans is so damn fun on this map. Its a real thrill when you win. :)

it was only an idea to bring this map more populary. or you rise the maptimer for more time

Colonel_Krust

I would argue that strand like charlie was pro-allie....despite the fact that things seem stacked against them. all things being equal it is easier to concentrate your attack and break thru then it is to adequately defend all the approaches.

Thats not the case with, for example, dod_overlord which was heavily in the axis favor....or dod_dog1 which because of the large number of flag caps needed to win was a tough nut to crack fro the allies.

If we had brits a dod_sealion might have been nice.

Thanks for the mirror Rosie! Edited it into the first post. :)

I think I will keep the names the way they are, dod_fuel is still the remake and the main project. ;) I'll probably do a det version of the map sometime in the future, would probably work better on public servers than the original objectives. I don't find getting to the objectives as an axis too hard, but getting one of your teammates to help you cap can be quite tricky. Therefore a det version could improve the gameplay.

I think you've already gotten your answer Green :) It is usually pro allies on public servers, but you can see a real differense between servers with good players who work together, and servers with players whos main goal is to get a good kd ratio.

Glad to hear you approve of my remake Unreal :D Tried to get in touch with you before I started working on it in any serious way, but wasn't able to.

Kraftstoff was one of my favorite maps back in the days before source and I missed it too much not to do anything about it.

Really good to hear from you Unreal :)
