Capt. Glimsharp's treasure

I found some of the Glimsharp's iron sight models on my old hdd... and to think I surfed the whole web for them only to get some dead links.... I decided I'd share this genious piece of work with rest of the world just in case someone was looking for them... for those who are unaware of how exactly this differs from other iron sight models, these are animated meaning they wont block your whole screen 100% of the time, when you fire or draw the weapon it will stay in iron sight mode for a second or so, and when you shoot it repositions...genious work I tell you, also these are very rare as these models use both iron sights to aim, not just one... download it and try it its small and works pretty good with latest dod1. I dont have all of them, so if someone else has them, or knows a link with them, please share it!!

Here are the one's I have:

PS: once again, if someone else has some glimpy's iron sight models to complete this collection, share it here!

Thank you for these.

I miss Glimsharps work. It was top-notch. By chance, do you have his reload anims for the Bren?

No, dillinger, unfortunately this is all I have :( I thought this thread would have more people replying but it looks like glimmy's IS models lay around on someone's old hdd collecting dust... maybe people are disappointed to open this thread and find out how these models arent shiny and high poly and shiny.....oh and shiny too... maybe they arent top notch but afaik these are default models that glimmy just reanimated. I even talked to editor123 long time ago and I think he said he didnt have them either, real shame...

I'm not sure but I think the Bren with the Airborne arms on my site that Marzy did used Glimsharps reload anims.

Can you provide a more direct link if its not too much of a hassle? Thanks.

Maybe I should somehow link this thread to "general" part of the forum?

The big problem is that, while very good, it's work for an outdated game engine. I can't even recall the last time I played regular DOD. Over time the downloads areas just dissapear. It's the nature of things. One day all my work here will fade into oblivion as well.

One area you may want to try is www.schlex.net

I remember his British models for 2.0. I think their to blame for inspiring me to model for Half-Life and make my own.

I still laugh at the fact that the bren w_model was nearly 2000 polys on its own :D

I remember those great iron-sights by Glimmy!!! I also created new IS for DOD when it first went to Steam and also created what I called shouldered IS. I remember posting a thread many moons ago about them but no one was interested. I still have those models here's a pic of Splinter's garand model that I converted to IS and also shouldered IS.

I've got Omar what he wanted. If anybody else wants anything from the old days, I probably still have it.

Also, if anybody wants to see the old Day of Defeat 2.0Beta trailer, that introduced the mg42, I have that aswell.

Yes, thank you very much Editor321, you dont know how much you helped me, I thought I would never again get to play with these. Thank you for holding on to these forgotten models for an extended period of time, keep holding on to good old work.

Cochise, that certainly looks very interesting, is there any way I could get ahold of those?

Edit: I've looked at some of your posts in this forums, it seems as if you got pretty advanced in this iron sights area cochise, I'm now even more interested in what you made.

p.s.
I didnt even realise that Jed is the guy who made terrific addon to hlmv, a feature that makes me install hlmv almost right after clean install of windows.

Hey Omar,

I'll give you everything I have which some models I converted to shouldered iron sights and some of Glimsharp that I tweaked. Right now my RabidShare is experiencing some problems, once I get an uploader I'll have them available for you.

Note: By the way just a quick plug in if your looking for a great modern FPS with iron sights try Hostile Intent which is a HL based mod.

Schlex got rid of all their old stuff when DoD:S came out, unless I'm missing it somewhere.:(

Hey cochise, I got around to try your models. Anyone can see that you've put alot of time into these, really like what you done with snipers.

On a side note, I was playing with them last night and saw that mp44 and mp40 in particular have shooting animations that all iron sight models should have had, "low recoil shooting animation". My guess is that most people give up on iron sight models because of huge recoil that is animated resulting in frond and back iron sight being constantly realigned which can be pretty frustrating if you are trying to hit someone who is moving. I will try to apply lowest possible weapon movement to all shooting animations(because recoil in dod exists already) so that iron sights dealigne minimally whilst still looking as natural as possible(because I'm a animating noob). I hope you don't mind me tweaking them a bit, I don't plan to release anything, but if it turns out nice, I'll be sure to ask you first.

EDIT: about hostile intent, I've been following it long before it was finally released, there is not many playing it atm

Thanks, I'm glad you like them!!! And by all means you can improve what ever you like....the animations was the one area I am not familiar with. Just to remind you most of these models are Splinters and Marzy's if I can find the credits I'll post them.

Yeah, not many people play HI. My guess is many find it too difficult to play or too slow.

Well, its been a long, long, long time !

I browse the forums here, from time to time and have seen my name mentioned a few times.

It amazed me to see this thread though - I feel honoured !

I loved animating for DoD - a part of my life I'll never forget.

It was fun to remove the X-Hairs and actually use the sights of the weapon to shoot the enemy ! It took some time to get it right but I'm sure we all had fun using them.....

Things have really moved on since then !

Can I just say a big hello and "Thank You" to all those who remember me from the old days....

I too have 99% of all the work I did. I still have several versions of DoD on my Hard Drive and was playing DoD 2.1 with Sturmbot and Brit Paras just the other day !
Sturmbot is bloody good - those sneaky buggers can really catch you out sometimes !

Oh, those good old days !

Take Care - All of you.

Thank you for making me smile :)

Glimmy.

Hey hello there glimmy, good to hear from you, I don't usually follow these forums but I did follow your work. It really was long time ago but those models made dod a new game for me, before, I wouldn't even play it. Since this is one of those very rare occasions that I can actually reply to you, I wish you all the best in future projects and in life.

Now... as for the stuff I said I would work on, the alternate iron sights models, I just finished tweaking animations for garand(the one from cochise's attachment). Since I don't know if anybody will like it, and I don't have credits yet, I made a short clip of me playing with garand for you to comment on.

Before you watch, keep in mind that:

-my pc is a really bad one. Fraps really put the hard work on my cpu. You can see that videos are running in 10fps, and video framerate is 30, so it does look choppy and not fluid, thats NOT how its in game

-this is something I made for myself but will share if anybody wants it

-I removed rear iron sight because IRL it is not blocking your view like in DOD, and you shoot with both eyes open, thus the rear sight should be transparent. Due to engine limitations as well as limitations of my knowledge, this is best that I could do

-shooting anims have been redone/toned down and they are using recoil that dod already has coded in, and I feel that any big realignment in front and back sights would give other players with crosshair an unfair advantage

I always had Sturmbot installed so I could make my own game to test weapon animations and Iron Sight positions.

Good thing with bots is you can "pause" them for testing how accurate the Iron Sight weapon is etc...

Im not sure where or how you can get Stumbot from or where to get the old DoD.

I did put some stuff on disc - I'll take a look and upload it for you.

You will need the origional Half-Life game though.....

I'll post back here soon...
