new version out!

fixes:

fixed issues with the fences after first round ended.
(all fences, the churchdoor and the curchwall were not reset correctly after one team won)

added timer ( 6 mins at start and +2 on each destroyed objective)

removed some playerclips/teamwalls, because people complained about them

lowered the density of the grass for better performance

fixed issues with hdr lighting and dx9

removed some models to keep fps high and filesize down

ok, enjoy :)

Looks really nice.

I noticed that some of the bushes seem to have some lighting issues. Some of them seem to blink (i.e go from bright to dark for no reason)....

Have uploaded it to our server and added it to the map voting list.

I'll be curious to see the feedback about the sheer size of this beast and how it affects playability, though. It is an excellent-looking map, without a doubt (I spent a good 20 minutes just walking around in it by myself)...just wondering if it might be a little too big unless the server has 24+ slots, all filled?

That being said, it's a real work of art. Well done, pedroleum! :D

Also, you can follow any feedback about the map that's posted to our clan forums, in this thread (http://www.82ndallamericans.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4636).

Just some more quick feedback...

* The framerates were much better than I expected for a map with such long sight distances.

* One of the nicer touches is how you learn about your objectives on the Allies side...as you're leaving spawn you pass a destroyed jeep with a radio in it, and there's a voice on the radio giving you your orders. It's very creatively done.

* Do you plan to use custom objective icons for the two train detonation spots, instead of the tank icons?

* Will you be using any destroyed 88 flak gun models, for use after they're blown up?

Oh, sorry then.
I know what you mean, English is not my primary language too.

However, you can do what I do when I'm in doubt with certain words: use a dictionary/online translator. Beleive me, it helps a lot and makes you learn faster.

Just now got to play the map on a 24-slot server...it was great!!! Even though sometimes as Allies you'd move from your spawn all the way up to the church and get killed before you could do much, it still felt like an accomplishment to just get up there. ;) And even though the server had all-talk on (why oh why would an admin load this map, and then leave on all-talk??? ) there was a pretty good amount of teamwork going on.

pedroleum, I really hope this map does well. If Valve had any brains they'd buy the rights from you and release it as a stock map.

When I saw Pedro release his first preview of this map, I nagged him to let me help out in any way I could. I like city fighting, but ONLY having city fighting gets real dull after awhile, that's why I love maps like dod_ludendorf. I knew this map would be good IF he could engineer past the sheer size of tha map and get the FPS up to a respectable point. It's really pushing the limit of what the source engine can do at the moment. But the payoff is actually fighting in open fields and roads; actually having a use for your ironsights and rifle grenades. In this map I really feel like I'm in the French/German countryside

I guess I fall into the camp of gamers who do NOT believe gameplay is everything. Of course it is important - but cutting out the visuals, well heck WHY would you do that? If you want a game with no special effects and minimal visuals, DOD 1.3 is still running! :D And this map really delivers on the visuals.

thanks everybody! good to hear there's some rural population out there who enjoys a good countryside fight! shame on the townspeople! you're surrounded by us by any means!

btw. those custom sounds you liked were made by wile e! he's the voice giving you orders on the allies side. a friend of his made the german one.

whatamack: there will be custom icons as far as they're possible with the crash-bug currently roaming around. question: how was the timer? to long? to short?

wile e: check our pm! ;)

We went through four rounds in the approximately 30 or 35 minutes I was on the server, with the score Allies 3 Axis 1 (there was one 10-minute voted extension on the map). The Axis players probably would say the timer was too long, and the Allies would probably say it was just right. ;)

I'll have to pay more attention to the timer the next time I'm on the map with a lot of players, but it felt pretty close to being on target. I think the first "non-bonus" window is good but maybe the bonus time awarded is just a little high. I recall one round where the Allies had earned about 8 or 9 minutes of bonus time to capture the church. It took most of that time...we had maybe 2 minutes to spare.

I'd say leave it as is for now and see what others say. Right now, it doesn't feel too far off in either direction.

Hey pedroleum, was just wondering about this question from the other day:

I've seen quite a few Allies, for example, moving into the 88 field intending to plant a charge on guns that are already destroyed. I'm sure using the wrecked 88 models would help.

MATE!! Another cracking quality map. Cheers very much Pedroleum :)

This is impo pushing the boundaries of what we come to expect from our mappers. It is beautiful.

I also love the radio advice (cheers Wiley :P)

If you have a 32 player server and can get it full..especially with tactical team players.. this would be amazing. It is big.. BIG i should say, so, again, if you have a 20 player server as we do, it really does need to be full to appreciate gameplay on this map.

Couple of things.. axis seem to spawn over a very wide range. At the start of the map especially, axis really need to get to the gully on the right to slow down the allies advance as they blow their way up the gully. With some axis spawning very far away, new players in particular can tend to run around for quite some time without encourtering allies or going anywhere useful.

Playin as allies and making a coordinated assault up the gully on the left, using voice commands and tactics is soooo cool :) Will make a good video one day.

Once allies do break through there, they are on a winner. Times seem fine. If allies can break through the gully then they tend to win.

I love the concept of blowing your targets, THEN blowing the church and capping that flag ftw.

ps.. i love the flowers waving in the breeze and the cornfields... :)

Cheers again, keep up the great work thanks.

sorry for the bump but ive got to say that this is one of my favourite custom maps. it has everything. i havent played it with more than 10 people yet, so i definitely on the look out for a server that has a good population running this map.
the country side of it is very realistic, and everything seems to have its place in the world. the spawns are even massive and not claustrophobic rooms. the gameplay resembles that of a "beach" map, but is even better because the allies arent being instantly killed in their own spawn area (given a better chance without limiting axis forces)
its very fun, and offers a wide range of gun fights. great work pedro!

Neutrino,

Stop by the [415] server any night between 6:30 to 7:30pm pacific and when I see you we'll set the next map to rotate to this one. We're usually busy around then.

I won't be in tonight 3/21/07 as it's my wife's birthday.

I second Neutrino. This is one of the best 5 maps out there. Breaks all the rules, plays fun (especially full server), and is a piece of art.

Shame it doesn't seem as appreciated (judging from the informal "favorite custom map competition" thread). I resolve to get it running again on FNF after seeing Neutrino's post. :D

ohoh, it seems i missed your post :( good thing neutrino bumped it! very sorry, mate!

but thanks for the compliments! they're always welcome :)

about spawning. if i remember correctly (lol!) axis spawn very near to the gully by the lake until one of the second row barbwire's is blown up. after that, they spawn on top of the hill (make it harder for them to counter the attack)

i don't know if this "retreating spawn" is transparent to the player.. i suppose not?

are you suggesting they should spawn more in the middle of both gullys? like in front of the church? or in the trainstation?
or should they spawn always at the same place?

sorry for the bump...

np :) thanks for the bump, i found out about a missed post b/c of you!
and thanks for the flowers. unfortunately, i never see it on a euro-server... and if i do so, its empty or full of specs which won't talk to me ;)

i'll put out a new version soon (hopefully).
i ordered me a new computer, since i had to play on a crappy laptop the last monts... no fun! playing nor mapping...

what a nice map, what a good job, congrats

its just like i would go a few miles out of my home to the near country and would find it really there :)

as said before, this map is breaking the frontiers, giving motivation to start a new map. It is really one of the best maps

but one point, some player clips are stopping you without a visible reason, make it difficult to new players to understand where they can go or not.

keep on doing, you are far ahead
