THIS SKIN MAY NOT BE UPLOADED TO FPSBANANA.COM. NO EXCEPTIONS

ABOUT THIS FILE:
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
final remake of eSkwaad's superior M1 Garand skin. In my opinion
this is quite simply THE best Garand skin out there; that's why
I choose it for a release instead of making my own. eSkwaad's
permission was obtained. With the addition of phong shaders this now looks about as real as possible. I am still in awe of eSkwaad's work on this - it is much better than I can do. Ironically I'm much better at skinning people than I am at skinning weapons. Usually it's the other way around. ;) Was experimenting with making phong shaders and decided to use this skin.

Additions by me are:

Colorization
Changed VTF variables (no mippmapping, etc.)
Added normal map
Added phong shaders

Weapon skin and Normal maps are both 2048x2048.

Pretty movie if you don't feel like installing it to see what it looks like (DIVX):

Yes the sound heard in the movie is included in the file as well

As always, thankyou OZ for the hosting.

Beautiful stuff. Definitely gonna replace my current skin (original eskwaad version) :)

So glad you got a phongable card!

This Garand, along with Forral's recent K98 & STG44 releases are prime examples of how to do phong right.:)

Looks beautiful from the screens. I wish I had a card that supports phong, that way I'd be able to use this Garand.

Awesome work as always Wile, just wondering if you're gonna try to get a phong set out for all weapons sooner or later. Not rushing you of course, and I know you're still experimenting, just I've always liked your work and I noticed that your phongs are on the wood parts of the model too. Been waiting for that, as I tried my hands at making my own exponent maps and failed horribly.

it was brought to my attention that a couple of people were getting a "VMT error" due to the fact that I failed to close out the VMT code with a "}". Oddly enough this did not affect my machine at all - that's why I didn't catch it.
Anyway, the download has been updated so if you haven't already downloaded it you are G to G. If you did download it and got the VMT error you can re-download or you can just add the "}" to the end of the VMT using notepad.

eSkwaad's garand is the most detailed, finest one I've seen. Can't wait to try this on for size though!!

Ok, wow! Not so much for the skin(which is awsome), but the sound, wow!

I had to revisit the thread as when i just played i didn't recognise the beautiful sound the garand was making in game, pop, pop, pop, pop ding! I failed to read the sound was included bit. Did you make it yourself? It's so far my hands down favourite garand sound to date. Got any other weapon sounds stashed away?

QFE. What's up with that sound? I'm getting much better results playing with the Garand. It makes me much more deadly for some reason...

and I love it! :D

Excellent job Wile, a pleasant surprise while playing!

P.S. The phong is quite awesome as well, beautiful!

He released an entire soundpack a while back and also some seperate 30 cal sounds.

LOL. these responses are hilarious :)

Yes it's the secret ACME (İ) accuracy enhancing soundizer. Originally developed for use with large anvils, I have had more success with firearms.

Heck, seriously if you like that sound you should try out the .30 cal sounds as well. Feels like you're really blasting something. I play MG a lot now

Really nice skin but I wonder if anyone in here can help me, ever since the phong skins I sometimes get this white outline, happens on a few of the player skins and now a few of the weapons. I usually dont play with HDR but even when I turn it on and play on a map with it active it still happens, I'm kind of at a loss, I've got the most up to date Vid drivers for my card (Nvidia gforce 6800)

Well I must say that is odd. It's not the alpha OR exponent maps, that's for sure. The areas that appear white are NOT areas highlighted or emphasized by the shaders. I did notice however that in the pics you provided, the areas the turn up white happen to be areas of minimal surface skin - only a few pixel wide between the models edges. Maybe someone more affluent in the ways of how video cards and shaders work can comment on it. I am also wondering if this has to do with the format the VTF's were saved in (i.e. no mipmapping, DXT compression)

If it's okay with you I would like to send you a couple of test versions to see if they correct the problem. PM me if you are interested.

Really nice garand, I love it. But I´ve got the same problem with these white edges on the skin.
If you have a functionable one, please contact me. I want to use this baby, too :)

Nice skin, the sounds good as well but after playing MOh:aa since its release the sound really does sound as though its been taken from that game and been changed slightly in a sound editing program. Mohaa had a very distinct garand firing sound and this definately sounds a lot like it.

Fellow skin lovers. I kid you not. The sound really does make you play better. Just check out my position on T3GamingCommunity Server 1:

Thank you, sir Coyote

I used the skin before I saw this release and I really liked it!
Then I installed this pack......and I instantly fell in love.
The sound is just............best sound ever.

And like you said Pinecone, it really plays much better.
I am not kidding when I say that I often just play with this rifle (even in closecombat situations, I kinda only play on dod_strand_b4) just to hear the sound, it just feels so realistic and cool.

I agree with your sounds 'performance'. i must use customs in both CSS and DODS. the defaults absolutely bug the heck out of me. the better the sound (by personal preference of course), the better the gameplay and the better the performance imo. may sound childish and stupid, but then again, so is high school. I know I'm a little late in posting, but I have got to say that this is in my opinion the best M-1 package there is. Absolutely fabulous work Wile E Coyote and eSkwaad. The skin is perfect, sounds are powerful and the phong effects are superb, exactly like they should be. Thank you muchly!
