Regarding Custom Objective icons

El Capitan

For detonation maps, if you use the custom "white" logo (the bit that reveals when explosives are planted) this will crash the majority of players when the TNT gets planted.

This is beyond our control, and the only way around is to not have the white objective icon (just a standard one revealing over your custom one which looks tacky!) :(

I tested it out by extracting an official one from the GCF (all 3 icons) and testing them by adding them in as custom icons. They all did the same and crashed out the server!

If anyone finds a solution, please let me know!!

For now the only way to avoid this is using icons that aren't custom, at least for the white icons. That seems to fix the issue on many maps.

Exactly. It would be nice to have a FIX instead of just a workaround...I'm totally with you on this one. I havent a clue as to what in the code could be causing it, but maybe some devs could take a look if we raise enough hell about it.

It's quite a ridiculous bug, first time I see a game CRASHING because of an icon.

The whole RC2 of my map is hanging on this. As its going for a final release after this, I sure as hell don't want to release a half-assed map just because some small bug.

Thats why I posted in here really, maybe it will get more noticed...I'm sure its not a major thing to fix!

Try using a null texture/icon for now, thats all I can advise. Name the icon you use for your icon exactly the name you plan on using when this is fixed so all you have to do is swap it out.
(hmm, makes me wonder if even a blank icon/texture will still crash. Test it.)

In the mean time, a possible alternative/workaround is to just have a trigger to display a message saying whatever target you hit is destroyed/capped or "object planted". Something like that...

Lame bug, but, nothing we can do except nag.

it will. You absolutely have to use the default icons.

Yeah, unfortunately anything you put in there crashes it! It all still works, it just looks really bad unveiling an icon for a different objective to the one you planted the bomb on!

I just sent all relevant info on this to Mugsy via MSN, he wasn't aware of the bug. Let's wait and see what comes up

Anyone that has had this crash happen on his map, please send me the file as well as the custom icon so I can pass them to Mugsy asap. The sooner he has those, the sooner he can sort out the bug.

You can tell him that any custom made icon will crash the game, if he can make one then tell him that and he'll see.

The problem doesn't appear for most people when test playing your map in single player, it just comes up (crashing people and all) when more than 1 player is playing.

yeah the hilarious part is that it doesnt crash for everyone. Plus it only happens on server games and not when playing on your own.
