Actually, no. And trust when I say I speak from YEARS of experience.

Those type of gloves (aviator gloves) are EXTREMELY popular with the ground-pounders, even back then. Many guys will even wear these in the summer to protect their hands. You see the main problem with loose-knit wool gloves, which BTW suck, is that they

A) get soaking wet at the drop of a hat
B) make holding your weapon securely almost absolutely impossible
C) make operating anything mechanical almost impossible
D) offer NO protection against abrasion, sharp rocks or very hot items and
E) they just plain suck

In a job that requires a LOT of crawling around on the wet ground, items A and D make you actually hate those loose-knit wool things.

Everytime I see someone make one of those "wool" glove skins I literally groan outloud and say "O God not another one".

Leather shells are used in conjuction with wool INSERTS for weather that is really cold, and when I say really cold I mean 15Fdeg and under. The rest of the time a lot of Army guys, myself included, use something very similar to aviator gloves whenever we can.

http://whatpriceglory.com/pic/GIGloves.jpg

These are wool, but much more tightly knit wool (think uniform style, not sweater style as seen on most skins) and as you can see thry have leather palms. WW2 issue, these were probably the most commonly issued, but like I said infantry and especially tankers would almost inevitably obtain other types.

Again, here is the link to the gloves: http://whatpriceglory.com/pic/GIGloves.jpg

Let me know what you think.

I don't really like glove skins,

but try making them more brown rather than tan. As it is now, it looks like the black material is sewn into the poor guys hand.

Yeah, I made some other gloves but then just want to try out some stuff, well I am a skinner after all ;)

And then why not realease it to the public cause there seem to be people to like them ;)

I just altered them a bit, updating in a bit...

my honest opinion is this is a good idea, but I would make the lighter leather areas a bit darker. Leather has a tendancy to get darker with outdoor in-the-field use. Right now they look like Ferrari driving gloves at the track :)

Nice work mate. Correct me if im wrong but wont Gloves look abit out of place in the summer maps as Gloves were normally worn during the winter months and even then they were the mostly issued the OD7 Wool Gloves.

Thanks for that pic, no I can redo my whole skin :P

Just kidding, but I can make it look a bit different cause the "wild" wolly ones didn't quite work, cause it didn't show good in game.

They are looking good, great idea too. But like others said, looks like they are glued to his hands or something!

Ok thanks to Wile E Coyote I improved the skin.
Check out my topic start.
I have replaced the "old" with the new skin.

I wanted to have a envmask on the bumpmap but that doesn't work some how it bump+envs the whole skin.

I'm not a big fan of gloves in DoD because it reminds me of counter strike, but I'd definitely use those. They look awesome, good job.

Actually, I find it to look VERY convincing. A good choice for someone who is tired of the same old hands and wants something a bit different, yet still somewhat realistic. Yes they DO look skin-tight; that's because those types of gloves ARE. That's why lots of soldiers LIKE them. They can actually operate their equipment and weapons with them ON. They don't have to take them off.

About the only improvement I could even suggest to really complete the illusion would to be to add the stitching around the edge of the leather where it is sewn to the suede.

All in all a very good choice of subject and very good skin!

Thanks all for the comments, and especially Coyote ;)
And since this is wip I will add some stitches and some details to finish it off!

Also the bumpmap effect might look a bit to strong but if it doesn't have any bump or less then you have the feel of painted hands so this is the best it can get ;)

Small "teaser"...
I think the gloves are done.
I have made some screens and will make the preview tomorrow, and from the comments I get I decide whether I release it tomorrow right away or not.

It doesn't have phong yet but I think I will work on that too and see if it works good on that model.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm quite pleased with the result, and even more because these are hand models I skinned on and turned them into gloves with thick parts of leather on it.

That is the bomb. That's something I would put out. You have my sincerest congradulations. I honestly think you did a better job than I would have! I do not say that very much. this is quite simply a perfect job. I'm looking right at it and I keep thinking it's real.

Later on down the road you may way to make a used version also, some people might like that too (with scuffs on the leather and such) but yes definitely release this baby as is.

I have to download, just because.

Very nice to hear that, cause it took me some blood sweat and tears ;)

And let me know if you like to have some changes for other versions like damaged etc.

And I would also note that although it looks very nice I'm still not 100% pleased with some things but that's just how the source engine works...for now.

Wow, I agree with everyone here..fantastic. The leather looks REALLY good. The only downer (which isn't your fault) is the fact that you'll see these also as Axis. Overall though, great stuff.

I'm downloading them just because they look so cool.:)
