Hi,

This is a map by Terrorkarotte .

I'm releasing this one for him, since he can't create an account at the dod.net forums - so you know where the credits go to! :)

There's going to be a playtest by doddirectory tonight at 3 am GMT (10 pm EST).

- Albatros.

Quote of Terrorkarotte:

"

Download it here (http://213.133.101.153/karotte/dod_fog_b1.zip)

Viewdistance 1250 Units. Models fading out shortly after it.
Min FPS on my System above 80
On the standart maps i get 25-60.

There are 4 Flaggs. One after each Spawn ("Pak 40" and "US Jeep") and one on both of the two hill sides ("The Ruin" and "German Outpost").
Now the screenshots beginning with the Overview:

Whoops, our fault - sorry there :D.

Thanks for the correction - I will probably be getting up at 4 to participate. :]

Cheers!

The zip file has an error in the directory paths for the overview file.

It currently has dod\recource\overviews\dod_fog_b1.txt

The dod_fog_b1.res file points to a file resource\overviews\dod_fog.txt which is missing the _b1

The dod_fog_b1.res file also contains a mixture of slashes which may just look odd and actually be harmless.

"materials/dod_fog\snow01.vtf" "file"

Here is an adjusted version of the zip file http://www.box.net/public/static/pltfdznso8.zip

and a self-installer http://www.box.net/public/static/hbllp006vx.exe

Ok one thing you forgot to mention, how many spawn points do you have. I did a run through of the map, NICE WORK. I love nice detailed small maps. Can't wait to get the server full on this one. I hope you have at least 32 spawns.

looks nice from screenshots - the burned trees look great - like in a good movie where the germans fired with 88s into the wood and trees exploded and burned. looks realistic in screenshot.

if the map has 32 spawn's - it's soon on WQ1 Server :D (maybe would it be possible to pack everything in bsp file instead of several files with .res?).

OMG this map rocks, been playing on it for awhile tonight. Everyone loved it. I had the server up tp 28 so it should have 32 spawns. Alot of fun and good balance for both teams. You did a great job for a beta 1 realease. I don't see yet much else you need to change. Great FPS through the whole map. This is my new Favorit map.

Looks like a rifle map galore! How do assault and support classes fair on it?

Accutuly it fair across the board IMO. The fog really helps keep the long range stuff to a min. I do have weapon limits on my server but gives good cover for the MGs. Just try it out, I think it's a great map. Yes the map does have 32 spawns. Server was full with no problems.

I put it on WQ1 Server and it looks realy great - just one thing is very bad - the missing minimap - due the fog you don't see much and then you even don't know where to find the flags.

Would also be interesting if you have maybe some mortars or if you could fire with some of the tanks/pak's

I put the corrected zip-file as mirror at WoodQuarter (http://www.woodquarter.org/phpbb_board/dload.php?action=file&file_id=22)

if found it i think - the "materials/dod_fog" were not .bzip2 format so the clients didn't download.

i downloaded them now manually but sill no mini-map :(

it's working now - after copying the files manuall i'd to restart the whole dods and not just reconnecting to server ;)

we play currently the map 15 vs 15 and what i could see is, that the battle is more or less just in the middle at the graves (see screenshot below)

http://www.yourimages.eu/viewer2.php?id=2006098027dod_fog_b10000.jpg

maybe to make some second way or this part a little bit larger that it's not so easy to defend.

You need to make sure you have the .res file on your gameserver. I have no problem with the mini map. The only request that I have in vers b2 is the he puts everything in the bsp. That way there is no problem on missing files.

the original problem was, that i'm using bzip2 compression for http download that it's faster and then you have to bzip2 EVERY file (not only the .bsp) and so the file with materials were not in .bzip2 and they haven't been downloaded - i already fixed that.

my suggestion is too that it would be better to have just one bsp file.

We also use fast download but we only bzip the bsp - there is no need to bzip everything !

the other files were in the correct folders and i got the message in apache-log that he tries to fetch the .bzip2 version of the file and no entries about fetching the regular file - then i also made bzip2 with the other files and it worked.

Accutlly if you use bzip at all, the Source engine wants everything to be bziped. It will d\l I think, but will look for bzip then the standard file. if you want fast url you must bzip everything.

You know what people are asking for is usable altillery in the map. That would be nice if you could add that. Sorry I can't speel.

i just had a player on the server using a bug where he could go at the hill directly after axis spawn "in the hill" - he was standing outside on the right side from hill - i don't know where he was able to go there because i banned him directly when i saw him there.

could someone please forward this to terrorkarotte?

thats not the case, at least on Linux it isnt, i generally Bzip2 most files, but more often than not theres a mix of both & never have an issue ..

To come back on the subject of the map, I like it but there are a few things that should be modified:

1) People seem to get stuck A LOT under the tanks and other vehicles etc... This happens a lot when you're crouching behind a car and the car gets shot and move above you, then you're stuck.

2) more cover at the bottleneck would be nice or make it less bottlenecked (euh...is that even a word ?)

3) there seems to be at least one exploit on the map - though I'm not sure how people access it. I'll try to get more info on it !
