dod_rive status

Just a few words about my upcoming map, which I hope people will remember when it comes to their map :)

I recently rebooted (blue screen like) while working on dod_rive. Turns out the map file got corrupted beyond recognition (no props, half the brushes gone) and I hadn't made a back up of beta 2 yet.

I therefore went back to beta 1 (the one tested by CoJ and dod-federation) some weeks ago and reworked on everything. The good side is I wasn't so pleased by the changes I had made, and this version now seems a lot better already.

So keep in mind to always back up your maps daily (the way I usually do it) and save a zip file of your vmf file on a different space than your hard drive (I do it online)

With at least one week's worth of work to do again yet, I don't think you'll have a screenie of it before the World Cup ends ;)

I keep all my stuff on my HDD and save a new file every few days but perhaps a web host would be good and much safer..

Hope it all goes well man sorry to hear about the loss :o

everyone who does any work on the computer should just get a cheap external hard drive fom newegg.

Great for backing up stuff, or storing large files.

You tried accessing the auto back-up file(.vmx) ? I think all you have to do is change the file extension from .vmx to .vmf.

Yeah that's the file that only had about 1/10th of all info. The original vmf was completely wiped out, it would open in Hammer, showing nothing, and Notepad couldn't see a single byte of info in it, though it still said it was over 6 Mb....

Hammer makes automatic backups in "\sourcesdk\bin\HammerAutosave"

Yeah I tried that, and found out none of the saves were that version. I have some now of the work I did yesterday, and also lots of maps from other guys (that sent me their files), but not my own
