dod_longbow is advancing really well and I will soon go for testing in the dod-federation test program. This project is probably the first community project on dod source. So let me tell you a bit about it. First, the initial idea come from UPA leader or Bocasean when he is posting on dayofdefeat.net forums. So the whole idea aroud a railgun come from him. Then me and KominAaa team up to make this project. KominAaa made the initial plan, the railgun model, the trenches model and the rail track model with snow. From the plan and models, I had the job to make this come alive and I made all the mapping part of it including the camo textures.

So basically, this is a objective map where allies have to capture the railgun complex situated in a Ardennes forest of pines trees. There is four objective to capture in order for the Allies to win. The warehouse, the fire control bunker and two railgun bunker.

The fire control bunker is in the middle and connect with underground tunnel with the two railgun bunker. A rail system coming from the warehouse to bring amo to the railgun bunker and is half way underground, hidden with some camo nets.

the whole map is separated by a frozen river that will mainly be for allies to be able to flank in their attack. The goal is to not have axis cross the river, so I made it just a few place (mainly bridge) where they can cross on the other side. It's a bit like the beach but this map offer all cover needed, No sniping fest on this one.

I really think, and test will show if I am right, this will offer all class fun time and make a nice new type of map out on the scene.

I hope people will like it and I will listen really hard on all test I will do until I make a public release.

looks really nice. the trench system looks like its going to be really fun to fight in. especially the one coming right out of the bunker.

in one of the earlier pictures, the tracks seemed to run into the wall of a cliff. is that just temporary?

sweet railgun!

For the trench you talk about, I tried to make it a semi close area to get in the bunker.

For the track and the cliff, It's actually a tunel where the track goes. Now to make those track disapear somewhere, I need to get something going. So I did this for now. But the map is still in a aplha stage and I need to test the gameplay and see how the map it'self turn out. With time these are things that I can do, like build the track into a curve so we actually don't see the end of the tunnel. But to go in test, I still wanted to adress the side of the map with something. Seing the FPS are not really a problem, I could build it. The only real problems is that they make the map go bigger and bigger because they do need more complex displacement. I am already at 44 Mg uncompress with all custom stuff pakrat.

For the railgun, I made some reseach but it's all KominAaa work and the snow textures he did came out really great. At the moment the railgun model has no colision build into it. So I took player clip and made the colision on it so that we can actually walk on it, go under it in under the part that permit it and made ladder brush so we can go up on it to cap it.

Still have a lot of work to do before a public release.
