Hello, this is an...lets say amateur remake of old charlie, to wait for the official version to come, here are some pictures :)

There is a mini map so you can find your way, it respects the same objectives as in the old charlie, 2 artilleries, one communication tower and the coast cannon.

It has usuable mortars, press enter and it fires, you can also break the mortars, and the artilleries are usuable too, but they take 10 secs to reload, mortars take 8 secs to reload.

Before you go and play this on a server, if there is any, try it alone to find your way in the bunkers, its pretty much a maze down there ^^

good job, but theres already a dod_charlie in Day of Defeat: Gold. Why not call it something else, or people may get confused? If its a remake, don't forget to put _remake on it.

I just ran this on the BoB server, a lot of players were having difficulties joining, some say they were crashing to desktop when trying to join.

I saw many trying to join in the HLSW console, not many made it however.

Actually i dont know if you guys know, I made the source version...


I made dod_charlie_source, but lot of people didnt like the sand, the tiger tank on the beach and a lot of other stuff, and they said it was too small, so i made it bigger and called dod_charlie_final.


If people were crashing, its not the fault of the map, i got like 20 friends who played it and they had no problems :)

i tried today in the morning source version on my computer and it didn't look very good, but it was also quiet old before the real source sdk has been released.

tomorrow i could provide you my impressions about this final version now ;)

the 88's can fire now? :D

Yes the 88 can fire, you can fire them, but each time it fires, it must reload wich takes 10 secs, imagine if every 1 secs you were firing it, ^^

So you can only fire every 10 secs :)

Well I ran this again today, same thing some players were trying to join and never made it.

On next map the players who were trying to join said they crashed to desktop.

The server has a Linux OS (don't know if thats the problem), and there are errors in the console when checked when you join the map.

Pros
- beach now looks more natural
- LOVE the left incline access for allies off the beach
- operable mortar and flak
- cover on beach
- minimap

Glitch?
After capping the map, the timer resets, the hud icons all reset to Axis owned, fences and walls are intact and allies are back in the landing craft.
Blew up the fence and then the wall on the right, the mortar and door to the right bunker.
Descended to the tunnels and went directly to the Big Gun via elevator without capturing the first 3 objectives.
The Big Gun was still in flames. Was not able to recapture it. Sustained flame hurt.

Suggestion:
Tunnels are a maze indeed. If you ever return to this map, perhaps signage (http://www.sunlitgames.net/images/charlie_signs.jpg)
could be added? I would imagine "painted" arrows / illustrations would be simpler to add then metal plaques but that would be the idea.

tbh i think it still could use some improvements but no need to hurry ... if i run for cover under sniperfire i dont care much about rocks being a bit flat or not ;) .. graphics are not the most important thing imho

There is sure one thing not really good on this map : Snipers

But anyways, we cant force people not to use them ^^

I don't really see why the map crashes on some people :confused:

Never had any problems, me or other friends :rolleyes:


As for the bunkers, maybe you think its a maze because for you the map is new ^^

But if you get a few mins visiting the bunkers, youll see its actually simple :D

And for the indications pannels, its a good idea ;)

A perfect example.;)
On our server we have a seperate config file for each map (in the dod/cfg directory) we run so we can tweak as required, especially for a custom map which sometimes requires more time to see which classes need 'tweaking'.

Ill give it a shot, the beach looks nice.

EDIT:
After running around a bit I guess ill just resay what a few others said and mabey more:
The thrench is pretty crazy.
The plane is going awfully slow.
It seems like you could add more props to some areas to get the place a little fuller.
There are some neat features I like though such as:
The Mortars.
The plane even though its slow.
The Objectives.
