Hi All,

Just wondering if DOD:S mappers would be interested to participate in 2nd round of -=SS=- DOD:S 3 maps trilogy map contest?
If you’re interested please post your name, map project and let me know how much time you need to get your maps ready? So I can set the due date for the contest.

I think it will be interesting to make a trilogy of your map, continuation of your map; which carries on with part 2 & 3 of your first map, where the allies and axis spawn ends. Some of the map are doing so good, that DOD:S fans would love to see more from the same mapper.

1) Contest Rule - The same as -=SS=- contest 1st round.
2) You must submit 3 maps trilogy; encourage team work & join force with your mapper friends.
3) All custom maps qualify for the 2nd round of -=SS=- map contest, including maps from the 1st -=SS=- map contest and maps under my sponsorship program. Please keep in mind its 3 maps trilogy contest.

I’m in very early stage of setting up the 2nd round of -=SS=- map contest, so more to come… I hope to see big turn out from the mappers. I do reserve the right if I don’t have enough interest in the participation of the contest. I can cancel the 2nd round of -=SS=- map contest.

*** Prizes will be 2 times bigger from the first round of -=SS=- map contest. First prize will be $1000 USD, 2nd and 3rd prizes to be announced later.

Please get the words out for me, Thanks…

Cheers, Kurt

I'm all for signing up dod_rive in the contest, but I'm not going to participate should I need to make a dod_dijon2 and 3. Nor a dod_rive 2 and 3....

And I may be completely off, but my gut feeling tells me you'd have so few entries there might not even be a need for a jury ;)

I could however see a very good contest take place, if it was built on the previous one, and was "improved" (depending on how the previous one was perceived)

oh crap. a bouddha2 and a bouddha 3??

plus, it takes a long time just to make 1 great map. so the deadline's gonna have to be pretty far out there... cuz making TWO (three?) great maps at the same time.. takes even more time.

I agree that the triology does not make sense, at least to me it does not. Mapping is not about rushing a map and making sequel out of it. It's more about having a idea and carrying it out until you think the map is polish enough to release it.

Take for example you last constest, many maps where simply not ready and mapper needed to continue to work on them after the contest ended.

To come back to the triology, I am doing a map called dod_longbow and when I will be finish with it I am sure I wll not want to revisit the same map style again. I will want to head else where, do something completly different.

Hi Gents,

I have sign up 20 maps with my sponsorship program, lots of interest from mappers and DOD:S fans want me to host another -=SS=- map contest. I can’t have sponsored maps caught in a conflict with other contest maps, money is involved already and I don’t want people think the sponsored mappers could have any advantage over other mappers.

It’s not easy to host the contest, it takes a lot of time and resources and I don’t like to put too much restriction on the 2nd round of -=SS=- map contest, it’s not good with too many rules. Most of the mapper has 1 map already and a lot of DOD:S players would love to see continuation of the same map.

From your existing map You could have 1 morning map, high noon map and a night map, as allies and axis fight it out. Yes I agree it’s a lot of work and I’m not sure if the trilogy contest will go ahead, but I want test the water and see.

I’m trying to support the community and encourage mappers continue making more maps for the DOD:S community and revisit their old maps, so they will fix some of the bugs that is game stopper on regular map rotation. I have every custom map and some maps have some very serious bugs and error that is not viable to play.

Do you have any suggestions that will make most the mapper happy? Please let me know…

Thanks, Kurt

The suggestions I can give are to simply go about it the same way you have done the previous one, but don't allow any submissions after a set date and give a greater amount of time between that set date and the end results.

Say you launch the contest on May 15th, give everyone until May 30th to register to the contest, and until July 15th to submit their maps, with end results published on August 1st.

What happened last time (from my point of view, which I agree may not be the most informed) is that some people realized very late into the game that this contest existed, and they submitted something that just wasn't ready. If you give two months for mappers to dish something out, that's already plenty of time for the guys with current projects to polish theirs up, and for guys with no project to get one done too.

That way you increase the quality of submissions and your contest will only gain recognition from that....meaning even more mappers will take part in it next time around should there be a third edition.

As for contest rules, well it's your show, but as you said so well in your reply, stricter rules don't help. That's why a theme (or set rule such as a trilogy) will only work against it imho. For most mappers, making one map right is one achievement already, and even a "simple" atmosphere change requires a lot of work for it to work well.

Last, not allowing your sponsored mappers to enter the contest will only mean less submissions in the end. Personally of course I couldn't care less if people thought I had more chances because of you being my sponsor, because I know for sure the guys that matter in the community (i.e. the good guys) already know this isn't the case at all. If anyone has any doubt, you should post the link to the results of the previous contest, which is as fair as any contest can be.

Hi Gents,

LOL… From all the PM and E-mail I have received, my trilogy map contest I was suggesting is obvious not a good idea and I’m canceling the contest. Until next time happy mapping.
