Is it Battle of the Bulge?!:)

05-26-2003, 05:22 PM
When i think Holland, I think band of brothers (because I'm NOT well travelled so what else do I have to go by) and more specifically episodes 4-5. Some of the best battles in that series took place in Holland.

I was thinking about doing something on it, but without having been to (or in your case IR lived in :p) Holland, I thought that would be sacriligious.

Please don't make it British. Most of the custom maps out are British - from what I've seen.

yay a british map in Holland. you could make it where the british have to try to protect a bridge and maybe a few Cromwells and the germans have to destroy them to slow the allies progress on "Hell's Highway"(durning Operation Market-Garden); with an added obj for the brits to take out some tanks from the 107th Panzerbrigade garrisoned in Helmond, just a thought. oh and by the way th map looks awesome...good work

Umm... Market Garden was Monty's baby. He was given the bulk of the entire a.e.f's resources, including getting all of Patton's fuel and supplies which effectively halted Patton's advance that supposedly could have had him in berlin by January. It was the biggest loss of allied momentum in the war. It was also a British organized, British planned, British executed operation. Our airborne boys were there for numbers, and for manpower, so saying "please, don't make it British," I'm sorry to say, is silly. I've been waiting for someone to start a Holland map now that we've got both American paras and british infantry.

Ir, I don't know what you know about the history of Market-Garden, but you could make this Arnhem, or you could make it anything to do with keeping the corridor open, there were plenty of British troops enough to make either of those scenarios work. Remember: The British aim was to keep the bridges intact so the XXX Tank Corps could get to Arnhem to relieve the 6th airborne, so you don't want the brits blowing the bridge if this is supposed to be Holland. If you're making it Arnhem, then maybe have the brits hold the bridge? But then again, they never got re-inforced, they just got massacred. A more workable scenario would be have the brit team rush to cap the bridge while the germans try to blow it, which was the case throughout that campaign. Just dropping a few ideas your way, I don't know how firm you are in your plans yet, but I thought I'd offer what I know just in case.

Besides all that, the map looks really good so far, and I hope to see it soon :)

Not that historically incorrect. Besides, I think the british side is pretty fun to play being that it has such a limited comparative weapon selection. Makes you more apt to pick an enemy's weapon which would have been very much the spirit of things as a brititsh para when there's no ammo for your own weapon, but tons of enemey equipment around. Close enough to get the feel right, as far as I'm concerned.

After Band of Brothers, I agree with this. However, we're talking two different scopes of the war here. There were many divisions involved in holding the german army back during the battlle of the bulge, but mention Bastogne, and the 101st comes to mind only. Same thing with Arnhem and the British 1st.

Lol, that whole game is an historical abomination, perhaps we shouldn't speak of it except as an example of what not to do.

imho they arent fun to play since both sides have a bolt action rifle and that's what controls the gameplay...

hmm, to be honest, i dont think this map will be 100% hisoricly corect, but i have absolutly no doubts that the guy who made jagd should be able to make a very nice gameplay for this map.

looks very nice but i have one friendly asked question:

I don´t trust to say that to you, but the roof on this pic is damaged and I haven´t seen any rubble or broken wood from the roof on this pic... perhabs you should use another texture for this roof!

what do you think?? ;)

IR
05-29-2003, 05:09 PM
i still have to make the model for the rubble thats why its not in there besides that im not done with detail yet :) bridge2 is an very open map i wanna make the speeds better not worse

the buildings closer to the bridge are gona be "heren huizen"

those typical dutch houses

the houses further away from the river are cheaper and more country side build

not saying that this is nijmegen but for you non dutch people have a look at bob and see how the houses change from cheap
crappy houses to more stylish houses closer to the bridge

besides that some of the "voor gevels" "front sides roof"of the houses
will be models

but i wont come too adding that for some time gotta finish brushwork first :)
