My next mapping project:

Well with Arras coming close to finished, I won't touch it for a while as I'm pretty sure its pretty stable, and no noticable bugs (will see with private test soon), I decided to remake one of my favorite maps from oldschool DoD. Snowtown!

Wooo anyway, for those that never played it, it was fast and furious action and possible my favorite map ever in any version of DoD! Unfortunetly I haven't been able to get in-touch with the original creator of the map, 'Vicious' -- so I don't know if I can actually use the snowtown map name (I don't want to cause a ruckas). It won't be an exact remake because it isn't my map but will be based on snowtown, extensivley.

And I've only down a tad bit, but heres what I've done so far (its still a very early version and a work in progress):

Old Version:

If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to throw them my way!

When remaking a map from 1.3 to Source, don't just copy it, it looks extremily 1.3-ish and square, Source can handle more than these 90 degree angle roads ;)

Aha! I knew someone would comment on the angle of the roads, and so right after I posted that I changed them.

I can garentee you, it won't be a copy, it will be based on it, and not simply ported over. I'm doing every building, every piece of land and every part of the sewer (Mind you the sewer will take me yonks).

The screenshot above doesn't even have any displacment on the road, so don't take it form that picture that it will end up like that, I've only added the basic of props too...

Good start. Maybe you should try creating a custom vmt that cross blends the cobble and snow texture.

Watch, luckily there's already one there ;)

Allied spawn is up the end on the right, and the first flag is in the right spot, after I do the second flag, I will be starting the sewers (which I'm going to call painful)...

Any update on this map? I would love to test it out for TPG 3v3 Source since we use Snowtown in 1.3 3v3.

Map is coming along nicely... I can't exactly call it a snowtown remake as I've changed a bit of things, when I get some more time I'll show some more screenshots

Cool, don't really care what you call it :) I love that map in 1.3 and would love to play a Source version.

I think that you could make those little parts of buildings that stick out into the street that you have right there a little bigger, to make the path of that road a little more dynamic.

Also, about not being able to contact the original guy, and using the name...

"Snowtown" sounds pretty stupid, if you just name it something better, you wont have to worry. I Look forward to this, and Arras.
