Another hammer question (should be easy to answer I think)

The mapping is coming along well, I created my first house, made windows that break, mastered the rotating door, how to implement models, texturing, etc... basically... the basics! I've got a lot of information at my disposal, but there's something that I can't seem to find any information on...

You know that hedge 'masked texture' used in 1.3 Flash? Well, I was using this texture, and when I applied it to a brush (which is a func_illusionary btw), it was applied to all sides of it. Now, I already know how to assign textures to just ONE side of a brush (which is what I'll end up doing), but I don't know how to make all the other sides transparent which is what I'm going for.

Use the texture 'nodraw' and it'll still block vis, but wont render at all.

Not sure what you mean exactly, I don't know what the masked texture from 1.3 is :P but sounds to me like you just need to open the texture application window and hold down shift+click multiple edges?

Is this a Source option? I should've been more specific, I'm mapping for 1.3... and I can't find a 'nodraw' texture at all. (I know of all my other special textures like origin and clip, but I've learned nothing of nodraw)

Masked textures (at least that's what I've read they're called) are textures that have that blue in them that, if used with func_wall or func_illusionary, become invisible. The borders of Flash in 1.3 are covered with a texture called {flash2_hedge. If you apply this texture to an ENTIRE brush, the texture appears on all sides and looks weird. In Flash, it's obvious that the texture has only been applied to one side. You mentioned the texture application window, and that's what I'd use to apply it to just ONE side of the brush, however, my question is, how do I make the other sides of the brush invisible? I hope that's more clear.

The nodraw texture is used in Source, but I dont know about regular HL. So I assume you're mapping for 1.3. Though I do know that there is a texture in HL that functions the same way, but I forget what it's called.

I believe there is a texture called invisible. It's just a small blue square. You can use that.

not positive, cos i not mapped for 1.3 for ages, but i think the texture you apply to the other faces is called "blue"

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed to know.
