Well, thanks for the comments.

One main thing I wanted to include in this pack was the "removal" of the chin straps. Apparently, it works fine in hlmv of course, but it causes consistency errors. It really looked cool to have the hanging straps.

Ummmm... I'm leaving the guessing to others, I got at least 3 I'm dead certain of (as a skinner you get used to looking at faces put on the wrong heads ;) ) but I don't wanna make it any easier on everyone else :D

Looks like Cruz took our advice when it came to the details ;) Yes there are certain things I may have done different, but as far as a good solid 101st skins go, if this is your thing download it now!. This will please many of the "band of brothers" fanatics. Detail is good, accuracy is good (as the model will allow).

Cruz, as a personal note to you, you are definitely improving. This release is a TON better than your previous work.

2 thumbs up!

I really dislike the insignia you got there.. It really looks like it's just added in paint without any further editing.. and believe me when I say that 90% of the custom models have this problem (the insignias)..
You have a dirty uniform, mud all over the place, yet that insignia looks clean, clean and overal; doesn't fit the uniform..

Also, the skintone of the hands is way off compared to the skintones on their heads.

Nice work though, good sense of realmis, apart from the insignia

They are just wow.

So damn realisitic.

As Willie said they are realistic as far as the model allows.

Maybe some one should do some Airborne Gear for this man so he can release the most awesome Airborne ever with correct gear.

But for now these are going in my DOD:S to replace my 5th RB. Im sorry Willie :)

But awesome work dude 110% Awesome.

Step 1.
Download brushes from nocturna.com (or .org or .net whatever)

Step 2.
Open the original skins, play a bit with hue and saturation.

Step 3.
Open a can of brushes and spam them allover the texture.

Step 4.
Find a .gif of the insignia, drag and drop on the sleeve texture, no edits.

Step 5.
Notice the crappy skintone difference, but don't give a fck, release model, get sexed up reactions of people that don't know jack..

\o/ I might sound rude, but with the reactions these people are givigng, you won't be going anywhere.. Fix up things before releasing.. Even my girlfriend noticed these flaws when she frst saw this skinpack.

Okay,

Well I DO know something about making skins.
- If you have seen Cruz's earlier skins, you would recognize this is great strides in the right direction for the man.
- These skins actually are pretty good at the base level; it is very hard to skin a uniform on a model that was designed for a different uniform; he pulled it off very well. Faces are also not easy to do
- I agree with the comments about the method used to dirty them up (it does look like he used a single recolored blood or paint splatter graphic), the arm patch and the hands.

I will also agree that some folks in these forums tend to throw praise at ANYTHING, thereby giving the artist a false impression of his work, and I don't agree with it. But this skin is actually very good in many respects, and if you are going to take the time to point out the negatives, you should also look for positives ;)

\o/ I might sound rude, but with the reactions these people are givigng, you won't be going anywhere.. Fix up things before releasing.. Even my girlfriend noticed these flaws when she frst saw this skinpack.

1) Custom brushes made from spattering paint onto a piece of white cardboard. Scan that after it's dried. Increase contrast, then make a set of my own brushes. Not a download.

2) I didn't just play with hue and saturation...look at the damn uniform, it's a complete reworking from scratch (exclude portions of sleeves). Did your g/f notice that?

3) see 1

4) No edits? hmm, I think i'll change the eagle so it's blue, or maybe a hue of magenta? I never put dirt high enough on the arm so that the insignia would get dirty. So why would I make it dirty if the surrounding area isnt dirty?

5) Good point. But if you were colorblind you would see that the colors match perfectly. Me, having this trait only notice the change in value and intensity. To me, the eagle's tongue could be green if I had not read the pop up photoshop gives you when selecting from swatches. So, I'm sorry for being born colorblind.

I can take criticism. I respect what you're saying. But much of what was said is false. Don't take it as an attack. It's just ignorant comments like, "don't give a fck, release model, get sexed up reactions of people that don't know jack.." that piss me off.

About the "contest," I'll give you guys a hint. I used _______'s face for the Bazooka's face. He has starred in a war-like movie, but it wasn't WWII. In addition, the movie wasn't all that "Great."

Hey Cruz

hands DO look better now, they match the body. You have an extra skin in the pack that got in there by mistake, americangear_normal.vtf. It's not used.

Also, as an FYI to you and anyone else using these hacked model for a skinpack, you do NOT need to include a copy of american_body.vtf just so the knocked off helmets match the custom skins; just include a custom american_body.vtm the has the info

{
"$basetexture" "models\player\american\american_boda"
}

By doing this you are simply re-directing the engine request for the "american_body.vtf" skin to use the "american_boda.vtf" skin in it's place

I would use the face paint. Alot of 101st Troops shaved their heads and painted their faces with the fresh paint from the D-DAY stripes on the C-47's (Paint not from the plane) at their assigned airdrome.

It was common place.

Cause i tryed deleting the .vtf that says paint.vtf and renaming the one that says "american_bodb PLAIN.vtf" to "american_bodb.vtf" But still the paint remains. I know how the files work for the old dod. But im still a nub when it comes to using the files in dod:s :p

Umm..Delete the current "american_bodb.vtf" and rename "american_bodb PLAIN.vtf" to "american_bodb.vtf"

That's all you have to do. Make sure you're renaming the VTF files and not VMT files.

Well idk what to say. Which model has paint on his face? If it's the Bazooka class, rename "american_bodb PLAIN.vtf" to "american_bodb.vtf"

If the assualt class has paint on his face you actually did that one yourself by renaming "american_boda PAINT" to "american_boda."

To point out, "american_boda PAINT.vtf" has nothing to do with "american_bodb PLAIN.vtf." These are alternate version to 2 different classes.

If neither of these methods work, I suggest reinstalling the whole pack, and starting from the beginning.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
The original Bazooka starts with paint on his face, in which can be substituted to a non-painted version.

The original Assault starts with no paint on the face, in which a painted version can be substituted.

Mickey Knox
02-25-2006, 01:18 AM
when i install your pack with out renaming anything, all the player classes have white paint on their faces. When I did what you said with renaming the plain.vtf file to "american_bodb.vtf" same thing, all classes had paint on their faces. I did not touch the paint file. at one point i actually deleted it the very first time i tryed getting rid of the white paint on their faces. so i didn't mess with that. I wouldn't have to ethier cause all the player mdoels (classes) have the white paint on their faces. man i don't understand why this is so difficult. I just wanna remove the tacky white paint. I love the skins. look the best by far. I just prefer dirty, muddy faces not the white paint, if you know what i mean.

If all the player have white paint, then you didn't install the "custom models" correctly or not at all. The custom models make it so that each class can have a different skin.

If you want all the same skin, rename "american_bodb PLAIN.vtf" to "american_body.vtf" This causes all your model to have the same skin WITHOUT the paint if you have chosen not to install the appropriate custom models.

Again, it seems like you didn't correctly install the custom models included in this pack; the problem is not skins, it's the models. Hope you understand now...

the thing is i had to of installed them properly because i placed the custom skin files, which were in your american folder and put them into mine. Then i took your custom models which were in your player folder and placed them into mine. I don't understand how that would be incorrect... are you telling me though, that each player class for these 101st have a different face? cause mine all have the same face and they all have the paint.

wait in your read me it says the models go into your dod/models/player folder and the for the skins it says you put the files in your dod/materials/models/player/american folder. do you make another models folder and put them in there? or did you forget to add materials after the dod folder?

I know what you did now. The models files go into this directory...

"X:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\YOUREMAIL\day of defeat source\dod\models\player"

Notice that "models" is a completely new folder that you must create in the main directory. This should fix all your problem now.

hey great work i just have one small problem.

my Support class skin is messed up, it looks like the clothing texture is wrapped all around his face and helmet lol.

It looks like he has a burlap bag over his head. Everything else works fine?

Anyone have any ideas? Everything is in the right place and i tried to re install them again just to make sure.

yes, had this problem too when I actually found out how to work the skins properly lol :P. An easy way to fix it is to just delete the support class models in your models folder. then when you go into your game after you do this your support class will look normal again but he will have that white paint on his face. I am not a fan of the white paint but the skins our just plain
B-E-A-utiful so ill manage :D

I actually got to replicate this problem, which is rare.

I tried putting my settings really low, and the support class had weird stripes around his whole body. Like you said, it looks like the man has burlap all over him.

The simple solution was to set my graphics higher in terms of texture settings, and model settings. I'm not sure if the other settings have an impact though.

So, it seems like a video card thing more than a "did I place them in the right place" thing.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone guessed the celebrity yet? I haven't read the previous pages.

If not, Collin(sp?) Ferrel
