As requested, Admin skins for the mani-mod.

Kept down to 1024x1024 with high compression for faster downloading

No gear, normal maps (not necessary)

No instructions (if you're a server admin and don't know where these go, well neither do I)

Made them both Captains (Hauptmann)

Tried to make it look as authentic as possible so as not to ruin the whole "WW2" feel of the game

DOWNLOAD (http://files.filefront.com/dods_admin_skinszip/;4744014;;/fileinfo.html)

I did this because it was a nice challenge to com up with something that looked kinda like it might belong, yet still obviously identified the admins.

Propen is doing a excellent set which are a bit darker if you don't like these

*EDIT*
Ahhh crap. I should mention the axis face was Rascal's doing. Wasn't really think ing about a readme when I uploaded it

These are nice, maybe something realistic like MP skins. Anyway good job...again lol :)

BTW you have to enable your sig every time you post...kinda annoying.

And yeah I did start out with the allies making him an MP, had an idea to change the german to a "chained dog", but then I got to thinking about it and decided they needed to look kinda the same and it needed to be clearly maked on the helmet (most visible) and the German field police had nothing on the helmet.

I suggest making the americans have an MP helmet. That would be realistic.

Noob at modeling question..

I Uber respect you guys, but I will never be a modeler..

I just don't have the artistic talent..

So my question is..

Mani will not work unless I ?associate?
these skins to a model.

I went through a tutorial and am at the point were I compile.

What model is this associated to?

? dod_player_shared.mdl ?

And when I try to decompile this it will start but crashes.

I get 905 files decompiled.

I am using Cannon Fodder Decompiler 0.5b

I am not sure if i am on the right track here at all.. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe someone would just compile it for me? Maybe we could work something out?

Anyway Great job!!

Will these work with the early war pack?

Wile E Coyote
02-11-2006, 10:12 AM
?????

They will work with ANY pack or skin. The SERVER requires you to download the skin upon connection and will show that skin when there is an admin on board.

You could, however, end up REPLACING whatever admin skin that was downloaded with your own choice of admin skin, and in that respect yes these were both taken directly from the Early War Skinpack.

Ok, i am a little confused. What are these models for or what do they do. The server i am an admin on has mani and I am wondering if I should suggest this to the head admin.

Any player who is admin on the server will look like that. I think its awesomeness.

Sadly it crashed the server when my clan leader tried to load it up.

I, personally, Don't think it's a great idea, as a server admin I sometimes find I have to go incognito on our server to find the real jerks who don't play by the rules when admins aren't around. Plus, it's just more content downloading your connection has to provide AND you force people to download it when joining.

I made this skin strictly based of a request (and just for fun because I am sick and think skinning is fun) and in truth I have NO idea how it works in the mani-mod

you guys shouldn't make them mp's but just high ranking officers b/c thats all admins realy are in the sever. i like the captain idea but a 1rst or 2nd LT would be better since the game is based more on the squad, not the platoon . It would be unrealistic to see MP's in the field or on the front lines any way. with the little rank on the helmet the admins can still catch the arsholes b/c they aren't a noticeable as the clearly marked MP on the helmet.

Kieffer

I know you wouldn't see MPs on the front line but. Admins are policing the server, so MP would work.

Seriously, in all honesty, if it were my server I would just make them plain ol' captain skins.

But like I said the request was for something a bit more noticable

Is there a way you could do field rank officer skins that would be cool.

Make me admin on a source server!

these skins looks good and i didnt even know you could do this with mani but like you i go incognito quite often so these would blow my cover =O)

Is there any way to make individual skins for individual admins?

EDIT: Do these work for anyone?

Wait a moment. Let me get this straight.

You can set a special skin for Admins on a server running ManiMod?

SWEET!!! Gonna direct this to my clan leader right now!!! :D

Lets us no how it works please. I would really like to use this for our server. But we are unsure how it works. Also, we have 2 servers, one is a match server and the other is a pub server. We want them to only work for the pubserver and have no effect on the match server because the league that we are in, like most, doesnt allow custom models or skins.

Ok it crashed my server hes what i done.
dod/materials/models/player/american/
dod/materials/models/player/german/

I Put my Admin skins in there

I created folders called admin_a & admin_x and 2 txt files called adminx.txt and admina.txt

Then i created inside the admin_x folder a file called german.txt

and inside that i put:
dod/materials/models/player/german/germ_admin_body.vtf

And i did the same for allies.

The Guide says this

Now, edit a txt file called admin_t.txt inside the skins directory.

Into the admin_t.txt file, put these lines:

"ADMIN Phoenix" phoenix.txt
"ADMIN Guerilla" guerilla.txt

So i put "ADMIN German" german.txt and then the same for the allied ones.

I edited mani_server.cfg and restarted my server, then on hlsw it just said timeout so i left it for 20mins came back and it was the same so im not 100% sure on what ive done wrong, any help?

I will again start working on this..

But i you just took the skins from this forum, I am 99.9% sure you are missing some needed files..

One of my guys are creating the files, and I will once agin be working on this..

The files you need basically are .mdl files, and .vmt files, none of which are included here.

I will update..

Reporting in.

With bad news.. I Have been working on this all weekend, and searching Mani's site.. Looks like the way DOD uses Models's it may be almost impssible for this to work with MANI.

I should have more answers and details in a cpl. days.

This would be so cool if you can get this to work. But I couldnt see using it, it would be so disruptive. I'd rather my admins blend in and just are there to keep the peace, not show off.
Maybe give the top 5 flag cappers a special skin or something, now that I'd do. :)

Beowulf8

up for coding it? lol

FireShorts

Would be cool if you got promoted to different ranks based on caps and defenses like in BF2. Like getting chevrons or special uniforms as you play. Then again, no... I don't think its too fitting in DoD. It sounds nice though.

Dunn0
02-20-2006, 03:02 PM
Well,

That is kinda the point with it..

It isn't just limited to Admins..

In CS you can designate certain people(Not just admins) with different skins..

So you could reward people (Say Supporters, Top Cappers ETC.) with a cool skin..

Anyway, I will report back with a yes or no..

As for coding.. LOL - Not me.. I would gladly help with testing anything.. We run 3 32 Slot servers that saty full since Free weekend.. And a few test servers.. So thats not a problem.

**Update**

We have got this to work..

There is a catch however.

One model for each class.

Basically If your and Allies Admin.. No matter what class you choose you look the same. And admin is an Admin, no matter what skin.

This is fine with us.

The skins look really good anyway.

Ended up using Coyotes' skins.

Anyone interested in the files?

I personally would like the work Admin on the backs on the skins.. Since you don't have backpacks on the model anyway.

Coyote? Whatcha think about adding admin across the back.

I don't care for the admin skins, though I'm sure most of our guys do. I'm using your player skins now Wile, how can I use this option and just substitute another unmarked skin as admin.

Hello,
I changed the VTF file to suite my clan added JTF2 to the back of the helmets and admin on the backs. They look great in game.

One problem the helmets stay on their heads, when you shoot it off there are two helmets one on the floor the other on his head, is this a bug for the mod or the way i changed the VTF.
Anway of fixing this

thanks

staker

(all recognition of the Admin skins i gave to wiles)

If anyone cares to contact the guys that programmed this feature for manimod, you should know that it can be used to load map specific player skins/models.

What it does is intercept the eninge call that "carries" the path to the player model and change it. This function is run each time a player entity is loaded, or in other words for each player that joins the game. So they simply check the player's steam_id and then proceed to replace the player model/skin with the "admin" one.

Thus, the code could be easily changed to provide map specific player models (ss camo, snow camo) for every player. You can go as wild as selecting player models based on player name, tag etc.

I'd do it myself, but I'm ultra busy these days, and plus those guys have the code at hand. So like i said, if anyone cares to contact them about it, we'd all have a feature we always desired.

Your wasting time contacting Mani about DOD..

They are CS people. Not saying anything Bad.. Just reality.

Most f what you explained is very easy to accomplish yes.. but all the different skins would need to be dl'ed..

I have already set up skins per map.. Just the DL is to large for everything.

I don't like to sit in connect forever.

And yes I have Fast Dl, and Bzip running.
