Working on two simultaneously can be slow so it might be a while until I finish either

Both are 2048x2048 textures and will come with Normal Maps.

Looks great. You've got an awesome base metal and your lighting looks good. I'm really looking forward to the BAR.

Can't wait to see these finished.

looking good for what you've got so far, should be interesting to see how these progress.

whoops, I typed shouldn't instead of should, silly me. :p

Okay, you know what? I don't quite understand what people are fawning over in these pics. There's hardly anything there (yet). You all must be psychic and are just looking into the future.

Well I hate sugar coating things. Although they don't look like much right now, I'm glad to see you've started on other weapons. I've currently settled on using your excellent Garand skin over all others, and I hope these turn out as well as that one did :D

it's called being freindly, would you prefer it if we told him that what he's done so far is sh*tty because there's barely anything there? didn't think so.

besides, I like the metal base he has on the BAR, and the little normal mapping on the Springfield's stock.

Hey good to see you skinning Gen! I like your metal base and your lighting placements so far. Can't wait to see these two finished. Wish you luck.

Thanks for all the comments guys :)

I've made a little progress (http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bar2reload6dt.jpg).
The metal looks a bit plain there, it's missing dents, scratches and it's normal map. In fact, that screenie is kinda crappy so

By far the best BAR work I've seen done yet. Most BAR releases are recolors or new wood or some other small edit. I love that you're actually taking the time to reskin the whole model.

Excellent work, I really can not wait until this is released.

If you can't tell I'm a bit of a BAR mongler, so I'm pumped about this.

Edit - Gen, do you plan on doing any other guns? I dig your skinning style and I'd love to see more models done like this.

I really like how it's coming along, the highlighting on the receiver looks quite natural imo. keep up the good work dude. ;)

I'll finish the Springfield next, which just needs a wood texture and some refs for the various engravings (help! :( ). After that I was thinking of doing the K98 and/or the STG44 because those are the only Axis weapons I use regularly.

However, if a nice custom model pops up I'll do that instead, I'm getting tired of the defaults.

:D

It would be really nice of you if you could re-skin all weapons =)

Here's two I managed to dig up on google.
http://img278.imageshack.us/img278/7629/15sk.jpg
http://img278.imageshack.us/img278/1650/21xv1.jpg

From what I can see, the engraving on the receiver says
"US
Springfield
Armory
Model 1903
1449947"

(Note that there is no "u" in armory :P )

The other text is much harder to read, but here is what I can figure out...
End of barrel -
"S A
(Logo, don't know what it is.)
19 - 18"
This is a picture of a 1903 made in 1918, hence the 1918 (duh).

Left handle -
(Box, inside)
D. A. C. (? unsure on last one)
SA (Last marking looks like 3 half circles)

By Trigger
P (inside a dashed circle)

I hope this helps somewhat.

Edit - Image tags work now? Or have they always worked in the MSA?

Last update before release. Just a couple of parts left then scratches, dents and discolourations get done before adding a bit of contrast and sharpening tinfoil

Clicky (http://www.r2dev.net/forral/1002bar.jpg)

And heres something you most likely won't ever see ingame, but it's done (http://www.r2dev.net/forral/bullet.jpg).

Can you scratch up the metal hardcore like it's really been dented and thrown around? The base texture for your metal is excellent i just want more of a used look for it. Whether or not you want that is a different story

Great work overall.

I think the stock could possibly use some work, otherwise I'm done with the B.A.R.

Looks great [SLHR]Gen. If you missed anything on there it would be the circular scratch on the metal where that darker piece moves in an arc.

I've been checking out a lot of the custom work and realise that there seems to be a preference for darker metals and slightly darker woods, and it is noted. Depending on what my reference indicates, look for the defaults to change sometime in the future.

That looks really nice. Should do a spec map for it too, although it looks good enough to go without.

Hmmm...wonder if any of the default models will ever get spec maps...This isn't directed anyone in particular... ;)

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments!

I'll do my best to get this released in the evening (GMT), but I'm not going to rush it. Also, could somebody recommend which flags to use when saving the monster 90 layer PSD as a VTF (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/VTF) to preserve quality?

Been working on the Springfield a bit.

Model hacks by PR0PEN, I'm going to be reskinning the barrel/muzzle/tip (whatever the hell you want to call it) again now.

I've scratched it up and looked at it ingame, I'm quite happy with it so far but some parts are very rough looking as you say. I'm sure Marksman took good care of thier rifles so I will be redoing a few parts today :)

If you guys do decide to change the default skins, I think you should release them as optional skins, as I love the default ones.
