Preview of my 101st airborne pack. This is the rifleman ONLY. The pack will include variety of classes in terms of faces, dirt, colorations etc. I would like to point out that the some helmets will have hanging straps, full straps, or no straps at all. Also, combat boots are on each class; no more leggings!

-NOTE: Image of model/skin has not been altered from HLMV. What you see is what you "will" get.

-Release date: TBA

I know it's a WIP, and looks very good right now, couple of things:

- Jump boots should go slightly higher up the calf, about another inch or 2.
- Not sure why you made the sew-on re-enforcement patches look like denim, everything I can find suggests they definitely wre NOT blue (although probably were not always the same color as the uniform). Sightly off-color khaki or OD Green would be a better choice IMHO.

Lookin good!

I think the dirty cloth leading up to the boots makes the boots look like they just blend into the rest of the leg rather than being a more obivous tonal shift.

Look forward to this being released. I agree with Wile re the patches but purely from an aesthetic point of view as opposed to historical accuracy.

Wile, I own a paratrooper uniform made by www.atthefront.com Your correct in the not blue, lol. They are actually peices off dead soldier's uniforms, un used uniforms, etc that have been cut up and put on, same with the added on pockets, the would have them custom made on.

Thanks for the help guys. About the blue though, I used loosely used these references and on them, they're kinda blueish gray. The boots I will fix now that I know how to do it. It took me tons of guess and check just to figure out how valve wrapped the leggings on the model. Let's just say it's not straight.

Dude the 506th wasnt the only Regiment in the 101st Airborne.

I say you should make them 501st for a change.

Well the reason i didnt do the 501st (i contemplated doing it) is because my Gotz von Berlichten german pack historically matches the 101st. Thats the reaon I did 101st; other than that I would do the 501st.

Maybe I'll just do both...

uhhhh.....

Those are the FREAKIEST reproduction jump uniforms I have ever seen  I see where you got the idea now. Yeah I'm not quite figuring out those repro's there! As far as I know the added pockets and re-enforcments all came from unservicable uniforms or plain old excess canvas (which was OD green). Not too much grey/blue in the US Army anywhere. Ever. :) But seriously, who knows, maybe some of them did look like that.

When I saw this I thought that same thing. But, I noticed how unique this was. Anyways, I read somewhere that some soldiers would reinforce their own uniforms themselves using stolen uniforms, or anything available to them. I believe that the airforce at the time had blue uniforms, but idk

Can't say I like the blue patches, but good work so far.

So far I have the uniform all done.

-The reinforce patches differ in color according to class now. Since, not many people liked the blue (I personally do though) I put it on the sniper since it's often restricted to 1-2 per team. All the other classes have the OD type color patches or very similar.

-The boots are fixed so they're higher up (thanks Wile).

-The hands look more natural in skin tone. (previous pics don't show backhand)

-The helmet netting stands out more.

-Normal mapping is finished for uniforms. I actually took my time on the normals to get this to look right. It really makes a big difference on this type of skinning project since many of the additions I put on aren't actually modelled on to the character [ie pockets, buttons].

Expect this pack to be out at soonest Wednesday night. I'll include, of course, high-res faces similar to my Gotz pack.

I'll also be adding some little fixes to DoD:S' entirety. This means all the vgui characters n' such will match the skins. Sleeves will also match the skins.

Alternate versions of this pack will include the "501st", "All American," and "Behind Enemy Lines." But, I'll go into more detail for those packs later this week.

I think I am gonna stick with Wile E. Rascal's skin pack on this one. (Yes I formed both their names together.)

Let's just say they stole R.A.F. uniforms :D

The 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment is part of the 101st Airborne, it makes up about 1/4th of it, and they did face the 17.SS after the fall of Carentan(boy were they ever pissed about that), as did the 506th, 502nd, and the rest of the division.

The 501st was part of the 101st.
