Ok i have tried changing the background several times, and nothing has worked. Where exactly does the background03.vtf file go.

dunno about background03...but background01 goes in the following:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\day of defeat source\dod\materials\console

u could try that dir.

It has to be named background01 and placed in the file directory above :)
