Fog and HDR

I'm having trouble with the fog in my map, it's way overbright and it seems that HDR is the problem (Turning it off stops the fog being so bright obviously)
So are there any settings somewhere to turn the HDR down (within the map ents) or change it's colour?

Also; has anyone found a good way to match the fog and skybox colour? I get it way off everytime and think that the secondary colour and fog direction may help somehow.

Thanks in advance

With the fog and skybox match decompile the skybox vtf and then load it in Photoshop or something and use the eyedropper to get a color sample of the main color. Then chuck that reading into the env_fog_controller and go from there.

Hmm maybe the env_sun in your map (if you have one) is causing some hassle? If you have one in there, does it work if you remove it?

Isnt that what the tone map is for? I'm not sure...Mine isn't too bad with fog and HDR...Im using sky_day02_10 because it's almost all white.

are you using env_tonemap_controller and logic_auto to set the min / max exposures and bloom scale?

Have a look here,
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List

Scroll down to the DOD skybox list and it lists the ideal settings for lighting, pitch, ambience etc etc.

Just had the same prob with one of my maps, its a snow based map and it looked like ud gone to heaven on spawn with HDR and FOG!

After hours of messin about try setting your bloomscale to 0.2 somewhere between 0.1 and 0.4 should do it.

hope it helps

Yeah thanks for that skylist works a charm but it still doesn't seem like 'fog', I think I'm going to have to try some volumetric fog stiz

I agree, you loose alot of the fog effect when you get all the lighting set right, what colour is your fog? I have mine set as a light gray maybe a dark gray would make it more obvious.

Let me know if you find a good setting first ;)
