Here's what I've done so far. For player models, if you guys want patches for a specific unit, post some accurate references and I'll whip up a skin. :)

Sorry if the pics are of somewhat mediocre quality :p

The menu GFX look incredible! Really good work!

I'd prefer some kind of Red Ensign map icon to the leaf though.

You'll have my eternal thanks if you can do either the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of CAnada shoulder flash,

Or the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.

Anyone looking for Canadian unit insignias will really benefit from the following pages:

http://casftitle.freehosting.net/shocloth2.htm

It's got just about every unit's insignia in good quality pics.

I'm still toying with a design that looks more "red-ensignish". I'm just having a little trouble getting a design that ......uhhh..... I can tell wtf it is when I look at it lol

Don't worry, I'll make something nicer ;)

Thanks for the refs covert-, I'll make 'em ASAP.

Hey, thanks pal! I really, and I mean really, appreciate it!

Also, I think the idea of using the old-style leaf on the minimap is a great idea... I'm trying to find some pics of it (it was the logo on Canada's uniforms for the Olympics for quite some time) but really could only find a pic like this one.

The logo is almost exactly the same as the old one (this one comes from the winter olympics stuff from ROOTS)

But I think it'd look alright.

EDIT: Before I forget, the Canadian packs will also need the small rectangle piece of cloth denoting what army they were a part of. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Dude, those look amazing! Keep up the good work!

Maybe you could use this patch? I dont know if this patch on these certain troops is historicaly accurate. But hey, most of DoD isn't historicaly accurcate :D

05-24-2003, 10:43 AM
good syuff man keep up the good work. Im looking forward to thes skins. Also, for the regiment, I think the PPCLI (princess Patricia's Canadian LIght Infantry) is an order. In my opinion they are the best corps in The canadian military still inservice today.

LOL...

I'm flattered, but I don't know as if I could accept a kiss... ;)

Anyways, those pages are great references.

And that patch you posted Wren... what exactly is it?

I've got to check out my books on the Canadian army uniforms once I get home from work to make sure I get the correct colour on the arms.

Alrighty, I did a bit of searching on the web

http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/

That page has the breakdown of the rectangular panels and their placement on the uniform.

Both of my requests use a dark blue colour.

Hope this helps!

If you like, I'll do up either regiment for you. Just tell me the one you prefer.

HERE (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6028) is the thread showing my Seaforth Highlanders. (well patches anyways. Need kilts for proper Jocks:))

Either or. Doesn't matter much to me, but I guess the ASH of C would do nicely.

Thx a lot, I do appreciate it!

Hmmmm they look great John Doe....

....Dont suppose you could try your hand at making one for the Canadian Paratroopers...but I guess that would require a new model rather than just a skin :( . Ahh well.....I'll be trying these out for sure!

lol covert- I had just checked that site before I read your post.
Thanks for all your references :)

I've got some brit para models from 3.1 that i could reskin and maybe convert to 1.0. I'll try to work on it when I get home from work.

Also, what would you guys think of a beret version of the pack? I was thinking of reskinning the beret brit pack Johnny Blaze released a while back...

Also lol, here's a pic of the flag model:

I think yours look great John Doe. If I may point one thing out though for the purpose of constructive critisism only, the Regiments in the Second Division always wore a colored identifier of Brigade as well as Division. This only applied to your RHLI skin as they are the only 2nd Div. you have there.

This pic shows a Calgary Highlanders tunic, they are from 2nd Div as well:
http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/calhisd_small.jpg
May be wrong unit, but gives you the idea.

With RHLI it was a green half circle, as can be seen HERE (http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/batpat.gif) in this crude chart.

I hope this is helpful. I think on the whole yours are cleaner then mine and I would like to use them, just though I would help to make them as accurate as possible.

Thanks for the tips Arsenal :)

The armpatch does have the green half-circle, I guess it's just not bright enough... I'll add that to my to-do list.

And do I have the correct color for the ASH of C?

Oh and expect release by the end of next week :)

Arsenal

ASH of C look great!

On the PPCLI maybe a little smaller on the patch. (The one that says PPCLI) :)

Really looking forward to seeing some of this stuff!

Don't worry the patch has already been fixed.

*update*

I'm just about done the infantry regiments from 1st Division. I plan on doing all the infantry regiments that were part of 1st -> 5th Division. I'm also done re-skinning Dances With Wolves' british para models into 1st Can Para.

Just a question, did the paras wear canadian bd trousers or brit bd trousers?

You are so my hero John Doe.

Just a note regarding the coloured rectangles:

After the Dieppe Raid, the geometric shapes were dispensed with, and all infantry units, as well as the machine gun battalion and the reconnaissance unit, adopted standard embroidered unit shoulder titles, conforming to the practice of similar units in the rest of the overseas army.

That's right off the page with the divison patches. So really the geometric shape isn't supposed to be there.

As for the ASH of C patch, they were used as a patch unit - they were separated and put where needed - either individually, squad and right up to company size. So you can mix and match the division patches with them (I'd say use the dark blue for simplicity's sake).

Arsenal

Didn't catch that covert- good eye! That must be why only the 2nd Div were shown to have them.

Divium
05-31-2003, 07:25 PM
Thanks covert-!

I'll make a 2nd version of the skins, without the colored rectangles. :)

So that makes:

All Infantry Regiments:

v1a: reskin of default models (w/ rectangles)
v1b: reskin of default models (without rectangles)

v2a: reskin of default models, all classes have scrim helmet, sniper has beret (w/ rectangles)
v2b: reskin of default models, all classes have scrim helmet, sniper has beret (without rectangles)

1st Can Para:

v1a: reskin of beret models w/ battledress
v1b: reskin of beret models w/ denison smock

v2: reskin of Dances With Wolves para model

Bleh that's all I can think of right now...

From looking at some reference books I have, it seems that not all units took off the coloured panels... I have no idea why, but they do look kinda cool on the uniforms..

It'll be cool to see you release the packs with the option of using the coloured panel. GG to you on that!
