Should custom maps be added to official rotar?

Do you think good custom maps should be added to the official DOD:S map rotar?

Maps such as Salerno, Anvil and Sora.

I think they should as these great maps are only running on a few servers at a time and sometimes not at all.

Salerno is currently my favourite map but its often hard to find a server running it.

Your views? *maybe make this a poll*

The answer is : They'll be made official if/when Valve decides they want to make them official. Nothing we can do about it.

If anything, we'd have a lot more chances of having our maps played if a) they were great enough to be made official (very few maps manage these standards) and b) if we as a community found a way to advertize our maps on a much larger scale, and could convince enough bums to sit on their arse a couple more minutes before entering a game.

This is the age old question to which we don't have an optimal solution for yet.

Y'know... it occured to me that if DODS had a dedicated dev team again (like DOD 1.3), then we'd have alot more maps official maps to play, lots more bugs fixed, and more response to player feedback.

Actually I feel the recent addition of bzip2 compressed http downloads have been a positive step in the right direction on this matter. This requires a bit of know how on the part of the server operator but works great once you get it going.

Valve could improve the situation greatly by simply making the download progress bar more responsive and informative from the players perspective.

The player should see one bar of completion upon succesful connection to the download server so the user knows the download has started rather then stalled.

Lets give them some good info. Stat the file and give them a size, speed, and eta for the download. Keeping people better informed will make them hang in there for the custom content.

Im sure that the people at steam could just say in one of their news updates:
---------------------
Check out the great custom maps being brought out by the DOD:S community.

Sora - info

Salerno - info

Anvil - info

Check out www.fsfsdfsf.com for screenshots and downloads.

Check out these screens of the maps
-------------------

Or something like that, so the maps arent official but it advertises them easily.
