Anyone know what the deal is? is someone in the process of a remake for source? Caen was a sick map. I think it would be nuts with source.:D

Yeah I quite liked it too, but everyone compailed about being killed from some one they couldn't find. I think I liked it 'cause I knew it from ages ago and the new versions are harder to navigate...


Not sure if they're doing one though and we've had enough urban maps for now.

caen was my absolute favorite. i hope that the remake for source is even bigger and even better.. seriously caen was the definitive shelled city map of DOD... i would love to see a triumphant return.

Loved it but tbh, it was the biggest camp fest I ever played on, on any map, on any game, ever.

After about 10 minutes of playing, people just decide to hide and ambush the 5 people who are trying to grab the flags all by themselves.

I totally agree. I was pissed when they released dod source and dod_donner didnt have the same atmoshpere as it did in 1.3. I liked that rainy dirt road gloomy style. Not this bright urban day style.

I actually have a version of caen in the works for source by the name of dod_caen_classic which i will work alot more once i release Hill_classic

I believe that the dod team will release caen once again when they have the british back in the game

I don't care if caen was officially released for Source. It was a fun map to play, but it was often a campfest with only me and one other person trying to actually advance. Would be good for variety, but it's not a must-have.

Camp fest? yes I do agree. But still, this map was one of the best original maps for DoD (next to dod_mainz :)) I think we should be able to give the old girl another chance.

Caen was definitely one of my favorite dod maps of all time. It lost all its popularity when it turned brit though which was unfortunate. I'd love to see a remake, it would seem new too because nobody has really played it in so long.

i think the gameplay changes had as much to do with it turning into a campfest than all the hundreds of winding corridors and dark rooms added, or the brits replacing the americans. especially the combined kills/points, the chance of getting 5 points from moving up more than anything was the main reason it was so much more fast-paced prior to 1.0.

caen was good back when it didn't have 8 million camp spots and places to shoot people in the back from. in 1.3b and 3.1 it was fun. 1.3 the map was a joke.

DoD:S is capable of much more than a copy and paste update of Caen. I think it should be "revisited" instead of "remade", that is, to convert the original to Source, but expand it beyond the borders of what it was limited to. Add a few more streets than the one S-shaped road with alleys. Maybe make it only accessable through buildings, so controlling them would be the key to the entire flank.

its not going to be a classic, but it'l be the same ways, only diffrent buildings and
source style :D

ok im going to compile the map quik and make some ss.

but i have to warn u i didnt use the vis and rad (so there arent any shadows or stuff) and therer will be no skyboxes (like background houses.)

p.s. it might take a while so as soon i have it ill post it.

From what I see, it is nice...though pic 3 is not working. I know that the 2nd screen is at the axis 2nd looking back...but where is that 1st screen at?

the first screener ist the postion were u looking at on the 2nd screener. if u look left u can see a part of the axis spawn.

It's obvious that you're copying and pasting in large portions of my map and others. There's nothing inherently wrong w/that as long as you don't pass the work on as your own...

which map'S do u mean?. i did copy a few things but not everything.. if u mean from anzio and all the offizial dod s maps then ur wrong sorry. cause i cant decompile them, cause i tried it :D but what i did i opend the map ingame and looked how they did the building and rebuilded it.
or u mean the old dod caen map yes thats correct . i did copy more things out of itso i can see how large everything has to be .

Yeah, no, in that first image you took that house with the sandbags right out of anvil, the top is still the same, same windows and balconys..
at least you can say that you took it out of that map, it's very obvious.

and you say you cant decompile the offical maps, but that doesn't mean you couldn't do the b12 version of anvil without hdr on an older version of vmex.

but imho, anyone can tell. So meh. :sheep:

actually, now that I look at it, you took about every building in that map out of anvil.

You realise that people spend hours and hours working their tails off trying to build their map from the ground up? Then you spend all of 10 seconds to copy and paste their work into "your" map.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Go read some tutorials and learn how to build these things yourself and stop stealing other peoples work.

While I know VMEX is a great learning tool when used responsibly -- its people like this guy who make me hate that program.

Actually because it is NOT an official map means you really ought to get the author's permission. You're free to copy official maps all you want.

guys I know some will say "why should I have to?" but in this case, it shows one does need to...

You can protect your bsp from vmex, by placing a specific prefab in it, that makes vmex stop decompiles.

The way I see it, if someone wants something off of my map(s) he can just as well contact me and if I agree, then I can send him that one part in a separate vmf file....
