Thought you guys may be interested in this. Mainly trying to find someone to skin it cause i wont be. Tri count weighs in at 5043. Finshed UV'ing today pretty happy with them. Tried to keep everything even but give the areas closest the eye a little more. Theres a few uv's off the map, once textured just move them onto a relavent spot. File comes with 4 flavours of UV's. Also uploaded my reference, file is 30meg. Any troubles let me know.

UPDATE:Reunwrapped and uploaded. UV's are much cleaner now, i reckon :P. Body is now split into 2 maps, Metal and Wood. Metal is on a 512*512 and Wood on a 512*1024. If you guys want bigger map sizes im sure you know how otherwise gimmi a yell.

Download (http://shortfuse.co.nz/files/m1garand/m1garand.zip)
512*1024 Wood
512*512 Metal
256*256 Clip
256*64 Bullet

Will DoDS try to apply the Garand texture to it if you use it as a Garand model, or will it just be unskinned ingame?

what the download contains is the model (i think) and UV map. it is not compiled, and therefore is not yet able to be used in game. if it were compiled in its current form, you would be looking at the blank UVs.

That's the best looking Garand model I think I've ever seen. I have only one gripe that everything forward of the front hand guard is slightly borked.

Here's a few ref pictures.

This one would be your best bet, it's newly refinished to USGI specs.

Other than that, it's dead-on. Fix those small errors and you'll have yourself the most accurate Garand model made in the history of the mod. :)

well i took a close look at the model, and as modeller I say its overal not bad, but its 2 thin, a bit messed up, and not quite correct. it has way too many vertices ( about 6700, and that is waaaaaay too much for a model ), i made a garand a month ago which had 3600 vertices but less detailed, cause details eat vertices. here is the one i made:

No offense, but that's the worst Garand model I've seen in recent years. Every detail on it is wrong. So as far as which one is "correct" goes, you're not even in the ballpark. Sorry :|

not to mention that 6000+ vertices isn't all that much anymore.

u wanna see the model?, maybe some things arent correct, but i know some guys that own a garand and they say that its pretty close, so i think you dont really know how a real garand looks ( not like mine , but not as this one 2 )if you want to have the model pm or email me or add me on msn :

i think the model looks great ... certainly better than anything i could produce ... i tried modelling a 30 cal once, before beta 2.0 came out (i wanted one so badly then) it sucked .. and i dont mean it was a poor model, i mean it sucked, it looked like a cardboard box thats been in the rain for weeks

ill give a shot at skinning, i havnt skinned from scratch but one time and i think that time sucked hard, but ill see what i can do =D

i believe there is a problem with the default animations. they are trying to get some custom animations made from what i have heard.

Here's my '43 Winchester. I could detail strip it and reassemble it blindfolded. I know what a Garand looks like ;)
