It's on our server, and it's the first map we've added in weeks. Thank you so much for getting it out at the beginning of the weekend for everyone to play.

My son will be excited...it's his favorite map of all time.

I played this map last night. I like it. Great layout, constant action. Plenty of avenues to move through. Great job.

Just thought i'd tell ya, the Displacement Rubble infront of the tank has one side above the ground so you can see under it.

But apart from that excellent job m8 ;)

Great job on this conversion, you are fast! Valve should hire you to convert all of the original map to source. ;)

Have played it. Almost a direct port of the old DOD map. very good job.

Only 1 complaint and that is the crates lying around are just too tall to be able to mount an MG or shoot over, as well as a couple of sandbag walls. However they are not high enough that they hide a standing person, which makes me think that this was not an intentional thing. I would definitely like to see them shrunk in size a bit at least to just below eye-level height, if that was agreeable.

And this is just being totally nit-picky, but shouldn't the Tigers have been driving towards the allied postions instead of the other way around? :D

Thats how the crates were in the original, they were supposed to just be "duck-behind" cover. And yeah the german tanks would be going twords the US troops, but it's hobofire so... yeah :)

Good catch!

I’ll probably release the final version soon. The only major thing I was thinking of changing was the hobofire capture points. I figured I should just make them a one-person capture zones instead of two-person like they are now.

That would make the map more fulfilling for a larger number of players, I believe. Until that time you happened by our server, I had never seen it capped out with so many players. Let alone twice! It would also cut down on the need for camping the spawn exits.

However, maybe you should release another beta with single caps on the ends, but a 3-man cap in the center for the tank? If you feel that'll ruin it for the small server populations that might play it, then maybe increase the cap time in the center?

That way, it's still demanding on the team as a whole, but without the frustration of the 2-caps near the spawns.

Another deathmatch map is all it is.....:(

I tend to disagree. If there was ever a map that required teamwork to complete an actual mission, this is it.

Granted, it's a small-scale map and the frag count is high, but that's only due to the speed of it. It also came out a long time ago as a unique map to DoD. The Source version is a true translation of the original.

yeah I remember the original :) It was also my observations with the original way back when. I just basically repeated them here.

Rounds wouldn't last long enough. Would go too fast.

I guess my problem with it is that when it first came out in old dod, our server played it over and over and over again and I got burnt out on it....the new isnt bad....I just hate small maps

I agree, as long as the center cap is left the same. If Nipper makes a 3-man or makes it take longer to cap, then that will still require teamwork, but will change the tediousness of the final cap outs.

I think it would be a really cool change. Or you can always make 2 versions and give server owners the choice. I'd go with single caps on the ends for my server.

Not to mention that it would cut down on spawn-exit campers (to an extent).. The closer to the enemy spawn you get the less time you want to spend dicking around waiting for help to cap the flag... Just because you were sneaky enough to make it that far across the map doesn't meant that anyone else was successful..

Just some small details and the last flags at the hobofires only need one person to capture them.

I think a new thread is in order in this forum for each release. Some one said a new version was out but took me time to find it until I look in this b1 thread.

By the way, thank for this classic remake, very much appreciated.

The _b1 overview works with the new map if you edit the textfiles and stuff.
So I just did that and made a new .rar file for it.
get overview here (http://people.jupiterhosting.com/~phurley/files/dods-overviews/dod_hobofire-overview.rar).
