You would be my hero if you could leave all of the canned ambient gun noises out.

I like hearing the crackling of a fire I am near, or the sound of a breeze here and there and sounds like that as long as they aren't overpowering.

I really enjoyed hearing the actual gun battle sounds of the players in-game only, when snd_mixvol ambient 0 was useable. I don't think I'm alone here. I'm pretty sure the maps without the canned gun noises will be some of the more popular maps than those with those canned gun sounds.

Thanks,

I agree. I can do without any extra noise. The ambience of the map can come from the actual battle in Source.

I second this idea!

although I think it's considered a cheat in source, try typing "stopsound" into the console. It will stop all of the ambient noises.

It only works if the server you are playing on had cheats set to 1

mappers you'd be my heros if you made all the axis spawns have a drop-off that injured you down to 60 hp so that the garand could kill in one shot ;)

I agree about the loud ambient sounds, though. I hate those. In 1.3, it got so bad at some points, that I couldn't even hear my teammates speak.

Ambient gunfire, etc is unnecessary. But the *occasional* chirping of birds, slight sound of a breeze and whatnot is fine.

The nicer, quiter (more "natural") sounds is all that I add to my maps.
