With the preview of that Pak40, (which looks great) I figured I might as well unveil my creation to the world. Keep in mind it isn't nearly complete yet, and I've got a lot of details and optimizations to do. It's in a rough stage.

I'm also not sure how accurate this is, mainly because I've been working off a poor blueprint, and my reference pictures are all of an actual plastic model. So if anyone has any reference pics of a german 105, that would be sweet.

Very nice work....

Between you and Jed, there will be all kinds of map goodies going around.

This why people hate me...

Don't worry, its not going to be released as it wasn't made for a game and is about 120,000 polys

Friend of mine is a serious plastic modeller and I used to make 3D models of his kits.

Jed I think I need to take some lessons from you. o_O

LOL. Its not hard. When you don't have to worry about a polylimit you can go crazy.

The skill is doing low-poly stuff where you have a limit and have to find the balance.

I say the hell with it, release the high poly stuff! Even though my frame rate will drop to -2... every second will be astonishing.

Would be amusing to skin something like that :p

Or make it out of displacement brushes!

LOL, it's hard enough to make a decent looking crater.

If anyone is interested in maybe texturing this then send me a PM, since I have no idea how to at this moment in time. Model itself probably won't be ready for texturing for a while, depending on how fast I work.

I tried contacting Brutal about this on MSN because Dark Nation referred me to him but I think he blocked me =/

Actually texturing isn that hard as Source will do a lot of the shading for you in engine. You really just need to put a very basic texture on and any insignia.

One thing though, if you unwrap the model and do a good job of the UV map you've a better chance of getting it skinned.

Will definately use this and the pak40 in my map.

Jed I'd like to get in touch with you about how you model because from the look of it, it looks better than the way I do things. I've sent you a PM.

I was about to say...you do a few of these and send them to Tamiya and you could have a part-time job creating the templates and eventual molds they use for their plastic model kits...

Just an update. I haven't been working on it too much recently.

Looking good. Hows it going poly count wise?

The only program I know how to check a polycount in is XSI and I'm working in 3dsm for this one, and never took the time to find out how to check poly count. =/

LOL. Its not hard. In the tool tab (the hammer) on the right, use "more..." and look for "Polygon counter". You can even assign it to a button.
