This is my second reskin...its almost a WIP as I intend to eventually create a better version.

This one has badges on the arms, but one arm is mirrored backwards, and the Canadian Paras wouldn't have worn US Helmets or gaiters. Otherwise, I like it.

Thanks to Captain Higgins for his 3rd Infantry Skin, specifically his gear and that awesome job on the helmet. Also thanks to fragspersecond.net

The work you put into these is nice and I want to encourage you to keep it up, but I do want to say as a Canadian that I would not use them. Our regimental markings on the US uniform just doesn't work. When we actually get a model of Commonwealth troops then I'd be interested.

I applaud the effort, and your effort to bring something that represents the Canadian army to DOD:S, but I cant do it hehe I cant use Canadians in American uniforms.

They are a good idea for a DOD:S clan skin though? if there is any DOD:S 1CanPara clans.

I just prefer my skins to reflect reality too much.

Nice job though

I realize they are not accurate...

Having a beret is a step closer, but a whole new model is needed.

I just wanted to reskin the allies and this was a good first step.

Powers: Looks like you did a good job. Jed posted some tutorials for XSI (modelling software, free with steam) I believe, that perhaps you can look at and try.

Personally I haven't the time at the moment to jump into modelling, though I have tried in the past. Give it a go, though. You may have some success.

I have used 3ds max in the past, but all I know is the extremely wasteful box modelling..

If I can't find anyone to do it, I'll do it myself, eventually, but it'll never be as effecient as a proper job...as for softimage, isn't it rather expensive?

Softimage XSI Mod tool is free.

Pesonally I think the skins are very good..definitely show more talent than I can hope to scrape together...I realize it's a work in progress... :)

But why is SPQR complaining about the little details...?

Funny complaint from a guy with the tag line Primus Pilus i.e.: The Chief Centurion of a ROMAN Legion and the pic of a SPARTAN (Greek) Hoplite soldier in his sig..

Details? Pot this is Kettle over.... :)

Ehh...the details are far from small. You can't have American clothing/gear with Canadian patches and call it Canadian just as much as you don't put a dress on a boy and call him Wanda. (unless your father Happens to be Ska Wars. That, we can excuse.)

However what he was able to do was a pretty good skinning job. It just needs more work than a skin, to be considered anything except American.

Maybe he likes more realism in his WW2 battle simulations than in his message board sigs.

Please understand, I agree that the details are far from small...I'm doing what I can to fix them...

LOL!!! Well the sig was made for me first of all, not by me. And do you know the guy in my SIG? Is he a hoplite? maybe just a gladiator?? who the hell knows or cares, it is a name for any game anywhere, these skins are for a WW2 game. I applaud the effort of the creator, but it is far from a small detail.

My apologies to the rest of the forum goers for responding to a troll.

Not troll chum....

You make complaints about small details.....and then complain when one points out you have a Greek Hoplite bearing the Lambda of Laikadaimon (Sparta) on his shield in a pic with Roman titles...

How do I know he is not a gladiator....hmmmmmm Classical Greek head piece, shield bearing Spartan insignia...open a history book perhaps......??

I was simply responding to what I saw as a humourous situation

Again. compliments to Powers on some great stuff...hope to see more in the future.....especially Canadians.....

Be nice to see someone do some 3rd Div Canucks with Tac Vest and "Invasion" boots....

Cheers

Cant forget MK III Helmets :D
Nice work Power, again its really cool your trying to get Canucks into the game.

On a further note? if you really really want to pursue making more Canadians have you given thought to doing the First Special Service force? or AKA the Devils Brigade? This was a joint US/Canadian special unit that fought across italy and was moved to Europe near wars end.

These troops were equipped entirely with US gear and weapons. Granted some of it was not standard issue ( they had a johnson light MG pretty much exclusive to themselves ) But its certainly close enough to get away with when your dealing with US player models. Also ? I have yet to see in my entire time here since 2001 anyone do a Devils Brigade skin.

Information on the Devils Brigade (http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/sub.cfm?source=feature/italy99/backgrounders/special)

Here is a site with a really cool Custom/Dragon models hybrid you would be suprised how well these action figures suite modelers and assist in showing details that photos 60years old dont provide

Devils brigade (http://www.redplanettoys.com/kb_fssf.html) That link shoudl give you a idea of which colors to work with when skinning the cloth of the uniforms.

Another pic of a differant fig (http://voyagertoys.chainreactionweb.com/images/Dragon/70092%20Pete%20lg.jpg)

your most likely aware of this unit, but rather then criticize which was never my objective with my reply, I thought ide just hand you some friendly advice, I dont have the talent for skinning that you do and i look forward to what ever you hit us with next.

thx if you read all this lol.

If I can get the hang of putting models in DoD Source with this Beret than I'll do a Mk3 too...

In that case I'd have to remodel the gear file to match P37 webbing....then re-map the texture, and then do the skin...

Suddenly this seems like a big job...
