New map i found today called lerouge on a UK server.
FPS on it never fall below 100 for me.
I dont know who did it or if its a remake or what.
But it rocks.
CTF is working, good balance for a great battle for the flags.
Graphics are awesome.
I dont have a link to download from yet, but i will work on it.
But you can come check it out on my server at 209.246.142.155

After playing this map for a while, i think it is the best map i have played yet.
I believe its better then the 4 stock maps.
Fps are great in it.
The battle for the flags is a great struggle.
Map runs as smooth as you could ask for.
Graphics are awesome as is lighting, shadows and sound.
Awesome job to whoever made the map.

Awesome job to whoever made the map. Um, what?

-There is no lighting (well, nothing outside of an env_light)
-There is no ambient sound, it's all regular dod sounds
- FPS is good because there's nothing on the map, maybe 20 models in total. There are that many models in one room on any official map
-The flag battle is your basic donner/flash struggle where everything meets at middle and no one ever goes anywhere.
-Brick and snow textures aren't exactly what I'd call superior graphics.

The map is just a basic 5 flags, cramped middle, no side routes map with no flare or design really put into it.

it isn't bad, but it is far from better than the 4 stock maps lol

Sorry but, the flag battle is the best ive seen yet.
Graphics? well maybe not a bunch of little items on the ground and on the walls is what is needed cause the map runs better then the stock maps do.
So does the gameplay.

Its funny all you people critcize the maps that come out, yet none of you seem to put anything out yourselves.
Your starting to sound like the guy thats doing "mohaa reloaded", by the time he finishes fixing all the maps and the game, the game itself has died.

No this is not my map.
You mention there are no models, and there are 20 models on the official maps per room, well have ya noticed the problems on the official maps yet?
They suck, they lag, and the gameplay isnt smooth!
So tell me how they are better?

Not to mention the 4 stock maps are all the same buildings in all the 4 maps, just placed differently.
Everything looks the same, no imagination at all.
At least this has snow and different buildings then what they used in the 4 offiicial maps.

The best battles for the flags have been on a server running this map.
Who really cares about how many models there are on a map?
I sure dont.
I'm not stopping to smell the flower pots while iim trying to ram a bullet through your skull and watch the blood fly.

I want a map that runs smooth and has great battles in it, and this map has both.
NONE of the 4 official maps have that yet.

Maybe the best thing about this map is that there isnt room for a bunch of morons to camp with their MG or sniper rifle.
Its all about run & gun.
And thats what the people want to see.
Not a who can camp best fest.

If you are doubtful of this fact, I suggest you look at this entire thread (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53893) to see what all the criticising posters - who you say aren't putting anything out - are working on.

I dont really care about you so called long time mappers.
Or, im waiting for the official sdk.
There is nothing concrete that says the sdk will ever be released.
They said it would be for mohaa also, meanwhile 4 years later the game is dead.

Its funny that the majority of you mappers want these picture perfect maps.
Well as a gamer, i can safely say the majority of gamers want a map that runs awesome and plays awesome.
They could give a shiet less how many models there are in a map.
Or about the lighting.

FACT is, this map delivers the quality a gamer wants, maybe not what a mapper wants, but a gamer sure does.

So if your a gamer who wants a great map with awesome battles, run & gun fast paced, no camping and runs flawless, then this is your map.

If your a gamer who wants a map with bad fps, pretty flowers and tables and couches that i can move around and have to trip over while trying to run, this isnt your map.

Streamlinedata, i see you have 2 maps your doing.
1 is 15% done and the other is 9% done.
How long has it taken to get to that point?

Stones does actully tell the truth as more gamers will play the map then mappers.

on a side note, dod_omaha_v1 is the most popular map I've seen for DoD:S so far.

Stones

TY haircut.
Yes omaha is pretty popular, and once again that is also a map that the mappers hate.
But the gamers love it, cause it runs great.

Haircut this map im talking about came out 1-2 days ago i believe, if you havent tried it yet, you gotta.

I run both dod_lerouge and dod_omaha_v1 on my server.

How long has it taken to get to that point? Not long at all. But I'm not even working on anything right now because of:
1) Girlfriend
2) School
3) Work
DOD and mapping comes 4th.

What's your point of brining that up? That I haven't put anything out yet for Source? So what? I'm in no rush.

Stones
10-09-2005, 06:01 AM
Your in no rush?
Then why bother?
Games come and go while people are in "no rush"

My point is this, you along with alot of other people are working on these maps, and im sure alot of them will be great.
But like your maps, how long has it been to get to 9%, are we talking 8 months before you finish it?

The game will be dead before that, if thats the case.

Most of mappers think there is no point in releasing blocky quick ":donrluvs::donrluvs::donrluvs::donrluvs:e" as you've said. No mapper on this forum will agree with you so I think you should create such threads in General forum, more players there.
If you want better FPS reduce details to low, upgrade your hardware or play DoD (especially if you enjoy blocky graphics).

Stones
10-09-2005, 07:03 AM
I run nothing but a top pc and graphics card.
If you dont like my topic in this thread then dont post in it.
Simple as that.:D

Besides, the map isnt blocky.
Maybe you need to update.

I really dont care what the mappers think.
The only thing that matters to me is the gamers, and gamers and mappers are 2 seperate groups.

Mappers for the most part dont even play the games, they just map.

Kind of like the people that make these games, they really dont know what the gamers always want.

Maybe we have standards?

Sure the maps have to have great gameplay but to get people to download them (especially in a few months when the SDK is out and every man and his dog is making maps) you have to make them look good to catch peoples eyes.

Quality not quantity.

I posted in here for people to hear about the map, not for any of you to criticize it.

Which is what you started doing.
If you want to play games then i can play games.

What would make you think im looking for support? lol. Thats hilarious.

I love to argue with people, so if you like it then keep posting up.
I can argue all day long, its my 1st nature.

As for telling me i need to upgrade my pc?
hmm, this is what you run!
AthlonXP 2.3GHz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 6600GT, 450GB HDD

I'm not the 1 in need of a upgrade.

You have started to complain about FPS problems you have with default maps, so I don't get what my computer has to do with YOUR FPS problems. I like how DoD:S runs on my computer.

You have posted on MAPPING forum to teach us how to map, so my short answer is: get lost and try somewhere else.

I see you like to argue about anything, especially about nothing. You like also to start (your beloved life subject) argument without reason, so I don't think there is anything more to talk about.

EOL.

Don't ever post a map in here again if you're not willing to listen to critisim. An NEVER again post anything here remotely stating that mappers don't play the game or I'll have you brought before the mappers quorum and we'll roundly beat you with our "Hammer".

And...telling us what a great map this is and in another post made within the next day or so stating the "the game is dead" doesn't exactly jive. I think you came in here just to complain that everythings changed and you really want to go back to what was. This thread is done.
