Hi All !

Here is a new version of dod_ambushcombat, now working with DoD 1.0/retail.

Mapdescription:

Background:
October '44 - located at the gates of Aachen.
After victory against German occupants in France, Belgium and
the Netherlands, Allied troops are approaching the western-german
border near the city of Aachen.
Axis is losing badly on the Russian front, but highest
priority is to bring a halt to the Allies thrust into Germany
in the West.

Allied Objectives:
Capture and hold all flags to make Aachen the first
city on german territory to be captured by the Allies!

Axies Objectives:
Capture and hold all flags to prevent Allies from marching-in!

Notes:
* To capture the flags you MUST enter the flagged buildings!
* Use mortar-support near last allied/axies flag to clear the
area around these flags.
* Beware of dogs! (spawn protection)

I must say...the Dog-thing...regardless of how the map plays (I have not tried it yet)...is a bizarre and wonderful new spin on spawn protection (why didn't I think of that?)

indeed, the new lightning gives the map a whole new feel. I never really liked the previous dark setting.

I really like the level, and all the custom stuff that goes with it.
*but* I have a big suggestion...and it has to do with the fires in the map. Change the "Appearance" of the light sources by the flames to "Underwater"...it may seem odd to want flames have an underwater looking light...but trust me, it looks a lot more like flames do...AND you don't give people seizures from flickery lights. -Gorbachev

I must have missed this maps original release, but I think this one is absolutely fabulous. I don't know why the responses aren't more estatic, I guess everyone here has seen the map before and used up their wow factor.

I haven't yet played this thing on a pub server, so I don't know how it fairs on there. I guess a level like this might be prone to camping, but i think the go anywhere style of maps is really a DoD strong point.

In any case, great work as you already know. From what I can tell from just a private server experience this map definetly could have been a contender for 1.0 release. Was it submitted and rejected for some reason?

Also, i noticed the Allies have bazookas, but for the life of me I would never be able to find the targets in all that rubble. Can anyone point out where exactly we're supposed to aim those things? Also do the axis have panzershrecks? Maybe the do and i missed them. Same targets question for them if they do.

Oh and finally, love that cow.

Oh, and really finally, Bleibringer, i will send you a PM about a teensy problem i found on the map, hope i do it right since i dont think ive ever sent a pm before.

Panzerschreck/Bazooka are quite usefull 2 blow out the capturezones located on top of the flagged buildings

Some comments:
In many places doors, windows, cracks are too small. They are big enough to enter but after several tries. This is especially irritiating when you want to jump in a windows from street when you can easily be killed jumping madly trying to enter. Some doors in buildings have narrower 'blockers', I mean that you run, get blocked by little wall sticking from wall, then you have to carefully navigate to go further.
As I've played only as allies I can speak about their spawn only. Spawn protection is good but enemy can very easily block exiting spawn area. 1 Axis locking open area, second camping in house from which you are going out from spawn and you have no chance to leave.
