Are you planning on updating your most excellent HLMV for HL2, since the HL2 HLMV SUCKS.

I'd really like the ability to see the textures on a model and be able to change them as easily as with HL1, because it's needlessy confusing and frustrating.

I'd also like to be able to view UV maps of models.

Is this possible?

Watch this space.

I've got ideas, I've been collecting resources and I've been experimenting but if I'm going to do it I'm going to do it right.

First obstacle is to remove the dependancy on mxtk which is so old and buggy its a joke - Mete hasn't supported it for years.

Its been on my to-do list ever since the SDK came out, its just time I'm lacking rather than desire to do it.

Fantastic news! I'll hope you get some free time to devote to it, because without it, some people may not take the time to figure this stuff out.

Yeah I hate loading up the SDK just to look at a poxy model, Jeds MV was one of the best tools ever..

Yep i know you probably already have this planned but the browse structure of the sdk hlmv is bad. You can't just go to any directory on your computer.

Also as simon said remove the steam dependancy, that would be great :)

Well I'll say it again so its understood - I'm not making any promises there will be a JHLMV2 but I am considering it.

As for a "non-steam" version - that could be difficult and *possibly* a little unethical. On a technical level, you still need steam to get access to the Valve material system and such for the 3D window. However I might be able to improve on some other parts.

As for the GCF browsing problem - I already have a version that lets you either browse the GCF or just open a regular MDL file from your hard disk.

Jed, I got a feeling you'll be impeached if you dont make a JHLMV2.

Well I've made some hacks to the current one but I'm really obsessed with fixing the interface. Just cant decide what to do it in plus I need to get the 3D and material system stuff working.

It may just be a case that its beyond my skills in C++ :(

Honestly, Jed's HLMV was the cornerstone of modeling in 1.3 .

Thats a typical Trp.Jed smokescreen;) I swear i have seen you say that about any public project you have undertaken, but sure as grass is green, there will be a HLMV:Sauce. I willing to bet my neighbours house on it:p
