fgd will be in the preload

Mugsy said the fgd should be in the preload files so we might be able to get a head start on mapping prior to the actual game release. We obviously will not be able to test the maps...but it should speed up release of some of the ones almost ready to go.

If I get anything else I'll pass it on.

THANKS FD!

will we be able to get the gameinfo.txt? if I recall correctly we had to actually start CS:S to get the gameinfo.txt to show up.

Not sure...I doubt it...but at least those guys who have maps close to completion will be able to add in flag and capture points and other specific-to-dod items.

Not sure...those four of course. I'm sure there will be other maps but I'm not sure if they'll be remakes of old ones or brand-spanking new ones (or both).

so far that's all we know Travis. Maybe they kept a brand new one a secret, but I wouldn't particularly count on it

I know using gfc scape you can get the gameinfo.txt out of the gfc but I'm not sure if those are the incripted files or if steam simply will not let you play it

It would be great if the team recognised this and shipped it in the preload aswell.

Ummm I hate to urinate on the bonfire, but aren't preload GCFs encrypted?

Even with GCFScape you can see the filenames and layout, but the actual bits and bytes of the actual files are scrambled thus rendering the files unreadable until their unlocked on release day.

At least, that was the case with the HL2 preload files.

Yea isn't that what the whole verification process does?

Jeds right. Youll get the FGD with all the other files unless (and highly unlikely) the file is posted beforehand.

Yes indeed.. With HL2, it was decrypted ( in my case though... ).

For this.. i had another question.. I don't have the Gold/Silver edition of Half-Life2. So i have to buy DoD Source in store. Will i able to download te preload files before i buy the game? And also... could i access the fgd before i bought the game?

I doubt it, I think preload is for all the people that bought via steam.
"Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available."

I know.. but before the release of Half-Life2, everybody was able to download the preload files.. When you bought the game after the preload ( when it was released.. ) you only had to enter the serialkey for the game, then the preload files where decrypted.

So my question is.. Could i use the fgd before i unlock the DoD Source files.. I mean.. is the fgd an apart item that mappers could access before the release..

Thats what I'm saying, only people that have purchased DOD: Source will be allowed to pre-load according to the news. That also includes the Mapping files I assume.

I would love to go and try that out once the preload files are available. As long as it doesn't break the rules of the Steam EULA. Does it?

Sorry guys, but the info was wrong on my part. I asked Mugsy and he said "in the release" which I must have read in the preload for some obscure reason.

As you probably saw by now, the content can't be read (we all knew that I suppose) and the fgd won't be there until the 26th.

Sorry for the wrong info

Well then...lol...we need to close this puppy. I'll delete it later.
