We are realists. And some guys around our forums were wondering if there was a way to:

Change the ambience of the maps on our server?

Add rain or snow effects to maps server side?

*Note: we're talking normal maps like Avalanche, Flash, etc..

Anything anyone could do to help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 99.9% certain you'd have to edit the map yourself, using ripent and replacing or modifying certain key entities.

Maybe some genius at work made a plugin for servers to add weather to maps (look and feel added on top of existing maps) but that's a stretch already...

Stripper or how it was called (MetaMod Plugin) is able to add/change entities at runtime. Only thing i used it for was making FG42 available on all maps by changing to para models (with the side effect of switching brits to allies on flash etc.).
That said, it's maybe possible to add an env_sprite with a snow/rain texture applied. But trust me, the chance that would work is small.
Same for the sound. You could remove the maps ambient_generic and replace it with a new one. Would work server sided with Stripper.

To the point: It's not worth the effort. It's just theory i don't even know if Stripper is capable of doing that.

And DON'T replace the sound by forcing the client to download a WAV named like the one the map uses. It would change it for all servers the player joins afterwards and he would get kicked on HLGuard or DoDGuard Servers for using custom sounds.

ripent, its too easy, I took bleakhill2 and swapped spawns, added rain, changed to Brits, swapped flags and added win music, and flag cap sounds, took me 15 minutes

Thing are always easy when you know how :sheep:

What (4THIDUSA) SSG is trying to say is, yes it can be done.

ripent edits the map file itself, you then upload the edited file to the server and play. The clients don't need to download the edited map.

Stripper does the same thing on the server at map load time, again clients don't need to download the edited map.

Entities are always loaded from the server.
