Another update to one of my maps. This continues from errr ... version 2.

There was a clipping error in version 2 that allowed the Axis to get into the Allied spawn.

The outside of the map hasn't changed much, I've clipped the whole of the top part of the cliffs and buildings, add detail to the inside of all buildings and opened up 2 more buildings to cut through.

one of your better maps IMO. this was a pretty fun map, good to see some errors fixed, and also good to see mappers still working on their day of defeat projects (we are few now) :)

i noticed a lack of support for non-source mapping lately, it saddens me. i dont know how long regular dod will be around for (hopefully forever, because i will still play it) but i think the community should still support our hard work.

Yeah, there aren't many of us these days. I think between haircut and I there's still a fair bit of active experience lurking. :)

ta Siron ... I like this map myself as well.

I have one more map that is finished and needs a bit of a test first and I might release two versions of that, one with flags and one with objectives, all depends on DoD: S though.

I still see one or two nice maps coming out for DoD though so it's not dead completely yet.

I find Source mapping really difficult, it's the lack of knowlege I have and things , for me, are really slow to learn.

The dreaded time is always against me, Saturday was my sons birthday party and I spent the whole of Sunday cutting the hedge at the front of my house ... I could have been mapping all weekend :D

I'm sure when DoD: S comes along we will all be better off.

thats my problem too.. slow learning, and lack of time. it kills my mapping :(

I'm still doing all my maps in regular odod (original dod)... haven't even started on source. I tried making a box room, had wayy too many difficulties with even that.

I'll probably still be making odod maps even when dod:s DOES come out...

I've made one CS:S map, but it was for a school project, a to-scale version of the 25th floor of this office building. Looked pretty cool and I only had 2 days to do it. Other than that I just get overwhelmed with some of the Source stuff. And not having a defined set of DoD related tools has been a turn-off for me. I'll wait until I get the proverbial boot in the ass to Source.

Those of us who play custom maps greatly appreciate what you are doing! It has always troubled me that it seems like the majority of players seem to just refuse to try custom maps. I was playing on my home server and I rotated it into a new map that I recently uploaded to the server and after a few minutes started to laugh outloud when a new player said something like, "Can we just play maps that I know".

I just don't understand why some just don't want to experience new things, in the way of maps anyway. I love to play custom maps and am always looking for a new map or updated map to check out.

Keep it up guys! there are those of us that can't wait until the next new map!

It's nice to know that us "old-time" mappers are still appreciated... it brings a tear to me eye. :)

Thanks Jimmy :)

(From StreamlineData site)... + I'm currently working a new map, dod_underground. Mostly conceptual, but it will be a Brit map (boy, do we need more of those...) and it will be the Axis trying to take over the Brit base, not the other way around (as it usually is... i.e. dod_hill, dod_density, dod_charlie, dod_wolfie)

That sounds like a nice change, can't wait :)

All these new maps to try... and another haircut map... *Bliss*

Downloading now :)

This was always one of my favourite custom maps. I haven't played it that many times, but it was fun from what I remember, and also a unique map with some nice ideas. I only usually play on the one server now, which runs a couple of custom maps, I'll have to start playing some others again, they were all I ever used to play, I'll see if I can find one running this. And also, I'm sure with Source we'll see a lot more people playing custom maps. Four maps over and over isn't going to keep everyone interested, so the first customs at least should be fairly popular.

As for source mapping, I've been mapping for years, mostly on the Q3 engine for MoH:AA and CoD. I'd call myself an experienced mapper and I got hardly anything but good reviews, especially on the visual side of my maps, I could create basically anything I could think of. But with source, for some reason I just can't get things to look right. I think it may be because I'm making a WW2 map with HL2 textures, but still, it should look better than it does now. I think a large part of that though is the lack of patch meshes. In Q3, you could turn a brush face into a patch mesh, which was a mesh you could curve and make into all shapes by dragging the verts. Call of Duty had the best system like this, which was way easier and more useful than displacements. I've still got a few ideas though, I should at least be able to get a few maps out for DoD:S.

i tried mapping for source and gave up after a day, i think ill just wait for all the models/textures/ etc for dod to be released before i start mapping for source, its just too irritating right now.
