lolhi~

So it occured to me a few days ago ive never really attempted any terrain prolly caz im lazy and then i remembered some wiseman saying "dont let laziness get in the way of good mapping" So i prettymuch set out to make some terrain and i came up with a small funmap type deal.

Few hours work left on it,

A better choice of a grass texture would've helped in the presentation department.

presentation is for suckers!

functionality > aestetics

i disagree. although functionality (gameplay) is far more important than looks, looks determine just how good of a map it will be. a map with great gameplay that looks like crap will not be popular, im sorry.

everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just cant get over how many people actually cry about maps that arent made for dod's standard gameplay.

Unless the pics do represent only the spawn, the map looks like a candidate for a release.

I happen to like the grass texture. Gives the map a dreary and hopeless look -- fitting for trench warfare.

I could have a bit of fun on this map, just spend a little time on texture alignment and spawnprotection.

I'm on your side. The map is actually 2x bigger than it looks. TBH trench warfare is very exciting. You know how to map, no doubt. r_speeds speaking, they're very correct,
enough to give to the map an outside area where player can't go but gives a general environement (synthetized by the 3dskybox on HL2 engine, major improvement to my eyes. Xerent was good at it for example)
and
fill the unwanted holes (can see sky under bushes).
Dunno, you can get something class with a reworked lighting/weather. Or special objectives. If not Stukas bombers, realist mortars or dunno what else. Such a small map has to carry a particular thing which will get people say OMG... Make interiors ultra-detailed: r_speeds allow them, due to your VIS-friendly layout. About interiors, they're way too dark, and knowing they're the middle chokepoint, go ahead in messing with lights (take example on glider: FD reworked the bunker underground, way better now) why not use func_breakable for lights trust me it's very immersive to fight on a map which evolves in a process called gameflow. Throw a nade, bam there's no light anymore.

So many things to do, NOT to play on awp_tard maps.

:)

I think the nature of the map and especially the bunker POV which is done completely on purpose does not allow for mg's and snipers to dominate - If i see some servers playing this one I will no doubt update it but it just seems like one of those maps that you release and no one touches it and in 3 days time its totally forgotten.

In any event thanks for taking the time to give me some feedback on it ;)

Did i see the swastika in the last pic?
that's nazi material....you'll hv trouble in germany. i think it would be better if you change it into an iron cross.

Those were textures made for me by spine so i thought id give em a run again. they were used in te initial beta of dod_harbor but i found out that the symbols are illegal in certain countries in europe and changed it

Is there an iron cross or clean version of that texture? It's one of the few crate ones I like. I personally try nowadays to put 0 crates in my maps if I can.

I'll get this map uploaded to the A41 server. I like the looks of it. :)
