could someone post up how to extract the DoD Source weapon textures, and then re-import them?

thanks

1) Download GCFScape (google it)
2) Use it to view the DoD files in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Day of Defeat.gcf
3) Extract the relevant VTF file
4) Use Photoshop with the VTF plugin (again, google) to edit the skin and save.
5) Put your edited skin in the relevant folder (if you're unsure look at the file path within the GCF file and create the relevant folders)

Hope that helps. Sorry if the explanation is a bit sketchy, I'm about to rush out somewhere heh

I have a problem, I can get the original skins but I can't open custom .vtf files. I intended to do some "skinhacking" and put together different legs, helm, torso etc. When I try to open a custom .vtf file Photoshop just says I dont have enough ram. Is there some kind of remedy to this problem or am I stuck with other peoples skins? :)

Thanks in advance /Rollo

Photoshop can be a bit quirky with RAM especially with the larger VTF files. The VTF plug-in is fine, its just that the way the plug-in system uses memory isn't the best.

Anyway, one solution many have found is to go into Photoshops preferences and increase the ammount of system RAM that photoshop uses. If you have 512MB RAM you should find setting it to 80% or higher solves the problem.

I set the Preference amount of ram to be used to 99% and it's still not working. I can open custom sleeve .vtf's now but thats it. I have 1024MB RAM btw. well, Thanks for the help anyways Jed. I appreciate it.

Hey, can i get some working links to some skinning tuts? Me and a buddy of mine are gonna make some skins and maybe models for our clan, but can't figure out everything. Such as editing world models, the .vtx files and whatnot. Any tuts/help would be awesome! THANKS!

Best place to start would be the Source Wiki: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/
